9 months of Evenity injections stopped because of brutal itching.

Took Evenity for 9 months. Terrible itching began. Did not take the final 3 months of injections. Took a bone density test at that point and there was definite improvement but four months later I am still itching sometimes badly, sometimes not too bad and sometimes not at all. That was my only reaction. I was then put on Prolia. Anyone else experience this?

Were your calcium levels checked by chance? Mine dropped a bit after starting evenity, and itching was my only symptom.

I took only 3 Evenity shots, stopped because of headaches and joint pain, which persist almost 2 months after the last shot. I also started itching, mostly on my chest. It seems to be going away. A product I have used to calm the itching is Sting Stop. It helps me a lot.

@elizabethlallen I took Evenity for only 3 months and developed Lichen Planus-chronic immune system inflammatory disease that gives me an intensely itchy skin rash-especially on my arms and chest, and sores all over my mouth.

I quit after the fifth set of injections. I had canker sores and extremely sensitive gums directly above and below my teeth. It has been two months since the last injections, and no more canker sores, but my gums are still a little bit sensitive. You are the first person I have seen mention
mouth sores. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are on the mend. I also had terrible muscle pain and arthritis-like pain. It was so bad that I almost needed a walker or a cane. Before Evenity, I was a strong and healthy woman. I am hoping all the side effects will ultimately disappear.

@marymary44 Thanks so much for sharing back. It’s a good sign for you that the mouth sores went away. Did that occur without treatment? I hope your physical disabilities resolve as well. I am starting steroids and antibiotics for the lichen plantus. It is incurable, though, and can become malignant. All of this after only 3 sets of shots.

So sorry about all this!! You are going through a lot!!

The mouth sores did resolve without treatment. I tried warm salt water swishing and found a very mild toothpaste, both in an effort not to aggravate the sores. It took quite awhile. I still have some sensitivity in my gums. Went to the dentist…thorough exam, X-rays , and dental cleaning. Nothing at all suspicious was found. I think it is that way for many people on these osteoporosis drugs. With some of the drugs, there are those who have gone to the emergency room, and nothing is found. I have osteoarthritis and can’t take anything orally for it. But…Arnica cream and Voltaren gel work wonders almost immediately. However, with the same type of muscle or joint discomfort from Evenity, nothing helps. The symptoms just have to finally disappear as quickly as they appeared. That’s because it is not from arthritis but from Evenity.
I pray that your condition will resolve itself with time and that it is simply an undocumented side effect of Evenity. I have had so many unusual physical things happen. To list them all, I would sound like a hypochondriac, However, I have always been blessed with good health. I will give you an example…I started having a fluttering sound in my left ear. It was almost continuous. I looked it up and it sounded like tinnitus. I called an ENT and made an appointment. Within three days it was gone! I’m still keeping the appointment, just to make sure all is well. I read that tinnitus does not usually just resolve itself. But this did. That’s why I’m certain that there is an Evenity link somewhere!
As for the severe joint and muscle aches, I am much better. However, if I do things that are completely normal for me, it can return with a vengeance. As of today, I feel pretty good, but I am not going to jump into my normal routine. I am going to give myself more time since this has happened before. It was affirming to read on this site that others remarked about how “normal” activity like a little vacuuming could start things up again. That’s how it has been for me, too. The pharmacist told me that by mid June to mid July the side effects should be gone. I hope so. Other people have commented that it took months. I think a lot depends on how long you take Evenity before stopping. I had 5 months of injections.

Again, I pray your issue is strictly Evenity related and will resolve itself. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Hearing from others certainly helps to normalize feelings. God bless you!!
