20 year old TKR

Posted by caseymydog1226 @caseymydog1226, Mar 17 12:21pm

I had TKR on both legs. One in 2004 and the other in 2005. They are at the end of longevity I have been reading. Have 3 red spots on the inside of each knee that apear to mark the top middle and bottom of the implant. On one leg a 1" red mark below the knee cap.
Anyone have any info regarding this issue.
It seems to perhaps the signs that failure is close at hand.
TIA for any information anyone has. Have a great day.

@caseymydog1226 Yes, for sure knee implants can wear out. I looked at several sites to see what the symptoms are, and this is what most of the say:
Symptoms of a failing or loose knee replacement implant are:
Mild to severe pain in the knee
Symptoms of Infection, including fever, chills, muscle ache, and others
Difficulty or restriction of movement
Swelling around the knee joint
Fluid build up around the knee
Thickening of the joint tissue
Instability of the joint
Feeling of warmth around the joint
Bone damage

What my dilemma is that my knees are not bothering at all. It is the red filled circles on the inside of the knees and now the horizontal red area on the L knee below the knee cap. At some point in time I read an article that said that they indicate failure. I can't seem to find that again. I am older than dirt so can not be held responsible LOL
Thank you for your information. I read the article which was so informative. Wow reading what is done when revision of implant sounds big time. LOL I am 80 so I wouldn't live long enough for the procedure to be done. Can be over a year for surgery LOL
Hope you have a super day and again thank you
