10 year old with Bilateral auditory neuropathy & type 1 diabetes
My daughter was diagnosed with bilateral auditory neuropathy when she was in Kindergarten. Since then she’s worn hearing aids and now has 1 cochlear implant on her left side. Her right ear has almost zero hearing left and we’re scheduled for her second cochlear in July. My question is, she is both diabetic and has auditory neuropathy, are there any studies of the the two being connected since they both deal with nerves?

@aphillipp54, welcome. I found a few studies that might offer more information. Perhaps you've seen them already.

I'm also tagging @julieo4 to join this discussion. Like your daughter, she has had hearing loss since a young age and has cochlear implants. She is also a wealth of information and may have further relevant resources for you. @1pamella also has auditory neuropathy.
How old is your daughter now?
Thank you for sharing this information, Colleen. I often suggest checking The Hearing Health Foundation for information on research related to hearing loss. http://www.hhf.org
@aphillipp54 I encourage you to connect with a support organization called Hands and Voices. http://handsandvoices H&V is an organization for families who have children with hearing loss. They have chapters in many states.
Are you familiar with H & V and/or other organizations that provide support?
Thank you for sharing this. Though I am not a diabetic I do have auditory neuropathy.
I recently went on a trip to an ataxia conference and realized hearing aids, as my neurologist suggested, would be a good idea so I'm going to look into them later this year.
