Starting ein a couple of days. Understand the worst part is when it is over (except for mouth sores during treatment) guess I am ready. Can't imagine the pain I am in now could be worse. Let's hope not. Thank you all for your posts. Helps to know what to expect. Good or bad.

@samclembeau, I did chemoradiation when I was diagnosed with anal cancer. I’d be happy to share my experience if you’re interested. Tim

Finished with treatment at ca. proton cancer center. Was amazed at how much easier than I thought it would be. My discomfort before radiation was pretty bad. After about 2 weeks that pain was almost gone because the pain was from tumor blocking me up. Tumor shrunk and so did that pain. Had some blistering from the radiation, but nothing to write home about. Was very manageable with topical lidocaine and an occasional pain killer. The worst was diarrhea from the combination of radiation and chemotherapy. I was taking chemo in pill form. Unfortunately when I had diarrhea I could not get radiation because I couldn’t control my bowels and that set me back a week. Stopped taking chemo and was able to resume. I am now home and feeling great. I little tired compared to “the before”, but living a normal lifestyle. I have appointments set up for next month for pet scan and follow up. I will keep you posted on the results.
Went to a dinner party and got diarrhea (milk in the dessert) but was able to hold it just fine until I got home.
So my sphincter muscle is working just fine. Friends and family stayed with me, but I really didn’t need help.
I mean I aced it! I was very lucky. I hope your husband has the same experience.

My mom just finished 7th treatment on Friday - Diarrhea seems the main side effect at this point. Immodium helps with that - using the BRAT Diet helps too. Good luck with yours. Apparently the radiation treatment itself is short and no pain.

Didn’t have a port because the only infusions I had were for hydration so have no experience there. Also, I only did chemotherapy while being radiated. The doctor said the type of chemo I was taking was to enhance the radiation so no point in taking it after those treatments were done. Hoping that the radiation was enough.
As far as diarrhea is concerned, Imodium did nothing for me but lomotil was a game changer. Need subscription. It stopped the diarrhea without constipation which can happen with Imodium. Didn’t want to make it harder to go ( that is just more painful) just control it. Good luck.
