Posted by saxman911 @saxman911, Dec 5, 2023

Prior to my biopsy and 28 proton (1 core was positive Gleason 7) therapies with a rising PSA to 4.8, quest diagnostic reports (6 weeks later) reports me having a 3.52 PSA

over the last six week sexual function is completely normal and I have lost nothing

urination is on the mild side - I drink more water during the day now

any thoughts

@grandpun

I had a run of UTI's in fall of 2020 between my dealing with BPH and before high PSA's leading to the prostate cancer Dx.
So I tried un-modified cranberry juice (a little hard to find among all the "pop" cran-juices).
It was was too tart for me. So I diluted it with water 1:1 and added sweetener.
That was good and I didn't get the load of sugars and other flavor modifiers the cranberry blends contained.

grandpun, Did taking the cranberry juice reduce your UTIs? The pure cranberry juice is very tart and quite hard to deal with the taste.

I sent a portal message to UFPTI asking about taking a supplement pill and they answered for those have trouble drinking the pure cranberry juice they recommended the cranberry supplement pill. I found that and started taking it without any issues. What you did seems to deal with the extremely tart taste too.

UFPTI gives the information on diet, stopping antioxidants (during radiation treatments), drinking cranberry juice in their pre-treatment pamphlets.

Yes. After starting the c-juice as I diluted/sweetened it no more UTI's.
But the age old question of whether it was the juice or just normal getting over the UTI's is always a possibility. After a couple weeks of juice I just stopped taking it with regularity: Then, still no return of UTI's.
If the pills work for you: AWESOME and enjoy the relief!

My PSA was .370 on January 21/22. On Feb 16/22 I was given Bicalutamide pills (Casodex) for 30 days and I had my first Zoladex injection on March 16/22 and my PSA was undetectable on April 22/22. So ones PSA drops very quickly. I started Salvage Radiation (SRT) on June 9/22 and had second Zoladex injection on June 16/22. My first PSA post SRT was in November/22 at < .008 and my Testosterone reading was < .2 (normal range would be 8.4 - 28.8). As of December 8/23 my PSA continues to be undetectable and my Testosterone level remains extremely low at .9 however I will live with the extremely low Testosterone level if my PSA remains undetectable.

@saxman911 Great news. When I got my first one it came on my portal. I had my eyes closed and then looked. Mine went down from 3.75 at start, 3 months later 1.2 adn then at 6 months .79.

But mine was low when I started treatments. Great feeling after going through all those treatmetns isn't it!!!

What was your starting PSA level.

Saxman: Layperson adding in here.
My understanding is that PSA following radiation as primary tx, or salvage radiation in my case, should continue to reduce for 6 mos after radiation and perhaps longer.
I had RP, but I think that radiation pts are looking for a low point or nadir of PSA in the " 2" range.
So yes, 2.21 sounds good to me.
Best wishes.
