Forteo Costs

Posted by leeosteo @leeosteo, Aug 16, 2023

I will be starting Forteo soon. My medicare plan D covers both Forteo brand and Teriparatide generic. My monthly cost is roughly $1500/mos. Is anyone aware of additional programs to cover the cost? I'm not eligible for the Forteo Savings card as I'm on medicare. Nor am I eligible for the Lilly Foundation program as my income is over $78k.

Second question. From what I've read so far it looks like the cost of needles is not covered in the plan costs, rather an additional cost outside the plan. If this is correct, where are you purchasing these needles and what is the ball park cost?

I'm hoping my questions will help others as well.

This is what I saw too. I don't understand how people with 178k income are getting forteo for free when both the website & application list the range as $43k-120k (latter requires a 6-person household!) Phone rep confirmed all of this, as well.

For folks living alone or with 1 other person, it's $43k or $59k/year max

Katwhispeter,

I too don’t understand Lilly Cares.

Forteo approval income level is $43k.

Forteo costs about $4,000/month from CVS.

This makes no sense.

Very confusing.

You can get it through R X Advocates. Even though Lilly doesn't give it to people with Medicare, RX Advocates can get it for you for 70.00 a month. The price will depend on your yearly income. Their phone number is 1-844-559-8332, and the website is RX Advocates.com. I hope this helps.

From m your post I gather you got Forteo through RXAdvcates for $70/month. Correct?

I’m reading more about RXAdvocates and would like to connect with others who have received Forteo through them.

I’m on Tymlos but spoke to Rx Advocates and determined my income exceeded their limit. I don’t have any other options so pay for Tymlos out of pocket. My provider is also CVS.

I am also looking for ways to afford Forteo. I am $2000 over the limit for lilycares program. Very frustrating.

Thanks to your post I just tried RX Advocates and they gave me a price for Forteo at 80.00 a month so I am so grateful for that price since without them it would have been 1000, which is not at all affordable for me. Before your post I had never heard of them so hugs to you for sharing your knowledge on this. Now if I can get my courage together to actually take it, lol. Peace and Blessings!

I have been on Forteo injections for 5 months, using a coupon through Lilly and also I going another coupon from my state.
But unfortunately both coupons had a limit and now I'm on Medicare I can't afford it anymore! I wish this medication wasn't so expensive. I'm looking for help as well to get back on the injections if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks!

Mornin' @inam
My insurance would not cover Forteo, but would cover Osnuvo, This was less than 1/4 of the cost.
I had a adverse reaction to this drug and am now off.... but, I am told this was "very rare". So lucky me, and should not happen readily to others.
This would be worth your investigating.
Hope this goes well for you.

Hi @inam
Forgot to state that Osnuvo is a Biosimilar to Forteo.
