Does anyone have Regular Medicare and know if they pay for Tymlos?

I have traditional Medicare and AARP Walgreens. Am looking into Tymlos but the plan can't give me any cost information until a prescription is submitted. Ridiculous! Can anyone with this coverage let me know how much they are paying before it goes into catastrophic and after? Thanks.

I also have traditional Medicare with Walgreens as plan d coverage. My doctor would only work with cvs specialty pharmacy for the Tymlos. My part d pharmacy plan pays for it but the coverage varies. When I started in June my portion was around $900 but by November I was in catastrophic so it was around $150. I need to contact the insurance this month to see what coverage is for 2024. Hope this information helps

Depends on your drug plan. You do have one right? All you need to do is contact them and ask. You can, before signing up for a drug plan if your medications are covered before you sign up.

I have AARP Walgreens Drug Plan. When I call them they say the doctor has to submit the prescription before they can evaluate the cost.

Ask your plan has a cell phone app for the plan. If you can, install it on your cell phone. You might be able to look up drug costs that way. I use an advisor name Healthmarkets near me. I talk to them every year in late fall and they help identify plans I can use and the costs. They usually are able to lookup my meds and compare plans fir the cheapest one for me. I have had organ transplants so meds are critical for me.

Her cost decreased because she went into the catastrophic phase of the Medicare Plan D. That's $8,000 out of pocket! Then costs are reduced.

I think this will totally depend on your drug plan. I have an advantage plan and Tymlos is covered, but since it is a tier 5 and needs to be prescribed through a specialty pharmacy, even the pharmacy costs will differ between them. You may be able to look up drug costs on your drug care plan's website. That's what I had to do and my out of pocket costs differed by as much as $200 from one pharmacy to another. This calendar year (2024) the total out of pocket costs top out at $8000. After you reach the $8000 threshold, you will be in the catastrophic level and the rest of the years drug costs will be covered. What you pay out of pocket AND what your drug plan pays BOTH count towards the $8000 threshold.
I started Tymlos in Jan 2024. My initial out of pocket for Jan and Feb was around $850 with insurance picking up the rest. (The total drug cost for Tymlos from the Walgreens specialty pharmacy I use is $2600/mo.) After the first 2 months I reached the coverage gap and my out of pocket for months 3 and 4 was $650. Last month I only had a small additional amount to reach the catastrophic phase and out of pocket was $315. I just refilled my Rx for June and I am now paying $0 for the rest of the year. This is just my experience and gives you an idea of how things may go depending on your specific plan.
I will say that next year the total out of pocket max to reach the catastrophic phase is lowered to $2000, so that will be much better than the $8000 that took forever to reach this year!
