Stage 4 Metatasized to Bones- Anyone at 10 years?

Posted by cal77 @cal77, Dec 30, 2023

For an otherwise healthy male, are there those of you that are still around for 10 years? I'm recently diagnosed and at 7 months...my Urologist said I have maybe 4 years, but then I see others out there are still around at 10 years...Is everyone different?

Thanks and glad to hear you are doing okay for so many years. I asked about an Oncologist, but the Urologist said not at this time. I am just getting the Eligard shot every 4 months, and take the Apalutamide every day..

My suggestion would be to consult with a Medical Oncologist (MO) at a Center of Excellence.
ADT and other prostate cancer therapies are complex decision making processes and MOs should be directing or consulting with your Urologist.
Reluctant to say more w/o knowing more,.
BUT I would EXPECT a Urologist to actively include Oncology in the development, recommendation and implementation of a treatment plan for what you describe as Advanced Postate cancer.
Best wishes to you.

Its Jevtana is a prescription cancer medicine that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Jevtana is used together with prednisone to treat prostate cancer that is resistant to medical or surgical treatments that lower testosterone and has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic).

I believe it came before standard chemo drugs today

Agreed. Urologist who also do some cancer treatments is not the same as an oncologist. It all depends on the treatment, and the outcome. If the PSA goes down to 0.2 or 01 or even lower, then the outcome is much better than say at 1 or 2. The biological explanation being that as much as 99 % of the cancer can be eliminated at that level. It all depends on the confidence and experience of the oncologist.
Dont mind me. I am just a layman trying to make some sense of the whole thing.

Stage four guy, 4+ years in. Working at living a Wellness centric life epically hard. Went from feeling like a short timer, to wondering about the long term. The trauma from my diagnosis moment is hard to shake, it still in me and at any moment it returns and I downgrade myself to making it through the day/week/month. The panic attack set in followed by depression. Takes a few hours to pull out of it, but I do. Thanks to my wellness tools, exercise, nutrition, and mindfulness. Quality of life (QOL) is something I can improve. I may not be able to shake this cancer but I can work on my QOL.

If there is limited bone disease many MO are aggressively treating with ADT, Docetaxel (chemo) and a second generation androgen receptor blocker (like Darolutamide) plus MDT (metastasis directed therapy), usually radiation. Results have been very encouraging. Evaluation by a medical oncologist at a Center of Excellence I agree is ideal.
