Neuropathy & Arthritis in both feet.
Arthritis in my feet became so bad the podiatrist could no longer treat me and sent me to a pain clinic which started me on oxycodone. Shortly thereafter neuropathy pain in both feet started feeling as if someone was slashing my feet, in the area of my toe joints, with a knife.
The pain was horrible. Sleep was impossible. My doctor tried many medications on me which had no effect. I found Nerve Control 911 on line and started taking it. It gives me great relief from the pain. I rub Diclofenac Sodium Gel on my feet 3-4 times daily for the arthritis pain which helps somewhat. Now numbness in my toes on both feet is a problem. My feet have a kind of their own and I’m never sure of my footing. Does anyone else have a similar problem? If so, how do you treat it? I tried to see a neurologist in May 2023 but my appointment is not until Feb. 2025. Yes, that’s right, 2025! I may be dead by then. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome @alicebrown, 2025 is definitely a long time to wait for an appointment to see a neurologist. A lot of us have numbness in our feet and balance is definitely a problem. You might find some helpful suggestions in the following discussion:

Thank you. I’ll look into your suggestions.
I found Alpha Lipoic Acid worked for a while to ease the neuropathic pain in my feet. When this stopped working I wore compression socks. These work most of the time for me now. The pain is totally unbearable and I hope one of these suggestions ease your pain.
Hi Diane, I too have peripheral neuropathy and arthritis in my feet (as well as elsewhere). For the arthritis in my feet I get steroid injections about every 4 months. I see an MD who specializes in lower extremities.
I also take alpha lipoic acid. I have not noticed any changes w/ the lipoic acid but I've continued to take it. I wish you the very best.
I had steroid shots in my feet for arthritis until they ceased working them my podiatrist sent me to a pain clinic & oxycodone. Bad move! I’ll inquire about alpha lipoid acid. Thanks for the info.
The arthritis is much worse in my hands rather than my feet. I will ask my doctor about getting steroid injections. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Good luck to you. It may take you checking with more than one medical provider to find someone interested and willing.
This sounds just like my feet. I have had both arthritis and Neuropathy for over 10 years. In that time I also tried every drug and every gimmick... lots of gimmicks. But what has helped most is getting off Gabapentin and on to Lyrica/Pregablin. I am now on 150mg 3x a day. This helps, but I do still have flairs and when these occur I soak my feet in a foot bath/massager.
Hope you find your help. Good Luck
Thanks a lot! Gabapentin did nothing for me. I will ask my doc about Lyrica/Pregablin. I appreciate your comment.
2025? That's crazy! Time to look for another neurologist. There has to be one out there who isn't so crazy backed up. I thought my three month wait to see a specific neurosurgeon was nuts, but I really feel for you. There should be some sort of triage system in which patients with the worst problems and pain get in first.
Wish you well. Be blessed!
