How to get wife transferred to Mayo Clinic in Phoenix Az
Looking to transfer my wife from Stanford Medical Center, she has been there since Christmas with no diagnoses. She has Lupus, RA and chronic pain, they keep doing tests after test, but unable to get a treatment plan in place. I believe that they are grabbing at straws , and letting their pride get into the way while not reaching out for further assistance while my wife in bounced back and forth from patient floor to ICU . I would like to see about getting her transferred before its too late, she would have to be transferred by plane.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, pulling out all stops

When I was first transferred to Mayo Phoenix it was my doctor that was treating me from a different practice. He based on my need for the kind of treatment He could not accomplish had me transferred by ambulance from one hospital to Mayo. So if your wife has a doctor who first had her admitted to where she is now maybe they also can request the transfer. Just a thought as in my case it was to be evaluated for a Heart transplant and my doctor was already in Arizona. I hope you are successful as I really like mayo Phoenix where ultimately not only did get me a transplant but during a period where I had this virus which was difficult to find and treat the fine staff at Mayo would not give up and did find the virus and treated it. I really like their ability to bring in any specialty to figure out the best treatment plan.

1 ReactionThanks Dana, getting alot of run around, and we are working on it. Stanford prides themselves on being the pillar of healthcare and they failing miserably at the expense of my wifes life. I will be definitely checking with her admitting doctor from the past hospital. I pray its not to late.

2 ReactionsMy Kaiser doctor referred me. Make sure Mayo accepts your insurance unless cost is no object.
Kaiser southern Caifornia is accepted by Mayo Phoenix but Kaiser North CA has different policies.

Another option would be to transfer her to Mayo Rochester. I have friends who could not get into Mayo Arizona but we’re able to get into the main Mayo in Minnesota. Good luck and hope you both get help soon.
I have been to both Mayo AZ and Mayo Mn and there is no comparison. Mayo AZ is like your typical high quality large hospital while Mayo MN is a Medical City unto itself employing 35K+ people. Not knocking AZ since I'm going there and I am very pleased with my treatment but if I had a problem where my local MD's/hospitals are baffled, Mayo MN would be my very first choice. Yes, it's probably easier for you to get to AZ vs MN as it is for me. That's why I chose AZ for my continued care of one problem I have and again I am very satisfied with the care they offer. Please note that Mayo AZ DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY ADVANTAGE PLANS while Mayo MN does accept some. If she is on an Advantage Plan I would call Mayo MN first. Best of luck

I grew up in MN and now live in CA. Mayo Phoenix is larger than Mayo Rochester and performs more organ transplants than any facility in America.
Mayo MN does not take Kaiser insurance which is the largest insurer in California.
If it were me I would compare the doctors who specialize in the disease that afflicts your spouse and determine which are most experienced and their education and publication records.
