Previously diagnosed with mucinous borderline tumor & on HRT?

In 2019 I underwent removal of my left ovary and fallopian tube due to the presence of a large cyst. The pathology report came back with a diagnosis of a mucinous borderline tumor. As maintenance, I see my Gyn oncologist every 6 months for cancer bloodwork and ultrasound/pelvic exam. Thankfully, there has been no recurrence. I am now in perimenopause experiencing horrible hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, joint and muscle pain...the list goes on. My gyn/onc is ok with HRT but will not prescribe unless I am in full menopause, my primary care doctor (a D.O.) is against it stating it increases my chances of cancer and wants me to start Celexa, an antidepressant known for reducing hot flashes. I will see a normal OBGYN this week for another opinion. Is anyone who has previously been diagnosed with a borderline tumor taking HRT?

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. I am 45 and recently had total hysterectomy for serous borderline tumor. Instant surgical menopause was unbearable. Thankfully my doctor prescribed HRT and it helped a lot. From my experience there seems to be a wide variety of practice standards amongst physicians. I wish that there was a consensus for hormone replacement therapy that includes perimenopause, that adequately addresses quality of life vs. risk.

Hi @dlo2, it is so confusing when you get differing opinions from your medical team members.

dlo2, what did you learn from your OB/Gyn?
