Chronic Gastritis
I have been battling a stomach issue for three months. At first I started having a soapy taste while drinking water from my yeti cup. Then I started feeling bloated and indigestion. After my go to gaviscon couldn’t get it under control I went to my gastroenterologist for help. He put me on Pantoprazole sod dr 40 mg in the morning and famotidne 40 mg at bedtime. After several weeks with no relief they did a endoscopy to see what they could find. Everything looked normal and they took 5 samples for biopsy and everything they tested for was negative. Then he tested a stool sample and it was negative. Then he changed my medication to Dexlansoprazole dr 60mg cap . 20 days in and I still have no relief. I have totally changed my diet. I cant eat dairy or anything with spices or fried food, I have stop caffeine and no alcohol and am on a bland diet. The only thing I have accomplished is 20 lb weight loss. But I still get acid reflux and stomach pain every day. ANY SUGGESTIONS,

I used a functional medicine doctor and had to pay for my testing. My granddaughters GP ordered hers and insurance paid for it. There are mixed opinions about food sensitivity testing, some being it’s quack science. But my experience was good and it helped me immensely , as well as my granddaughter.
I have GERD and SIBO, so I have been watching my diet forever…
If I have one cup of coffee for two days in a row, my stomach really kicks in. Then no more…try a teaspoon of baking soda in a short glass of warm water, you will shortly burp a lot, but should hopefully calm that down.
I take pantoprazole 20mg, twice a day.
🤞🤞🤞
I have GERD , gastritis, esophagitis, ibs-d, diverticulosis , small hiatal hernia, small flat polyps on stomach lining . I’ve been suffering 10 very long horrendous years . Non stop churning , gross wet deep belching day and night . Eat super small and healthy. Seen 6 Gastro Dr’s , had over 15-20 tests done ✅ still I suffer .
I’ve tried it all … I mean everything. I understand your frustration and can feel it when reading your comment. I take a low dose anti depressant since Oct , ( supposed to help w/ stomach and mood ). Sometimes I have to take anti anxiety med because of this .
I live on Ultra Pepto and we cook at home for most every meal . I dread eating but I hate feeling hungry all the time . I will have symptoms no matter what .
I also get pvcs sometimes from it .
I wish there was a magic pill or supplement that could cure us all . It’s such a tough existence.
Maybe I missed it. Did you try OTC proton pump inhibitors e.g. Nexium?
The first one they gave me didn’t help so the they switched to a different PPI. Been taking it for 20 days. Dr said we need to take for 4 to 6 weeks before we will know if it’s going to work.
I’m so sorry. It was not my intention to portray frustration. I’m just too blunt. I didn’t recognize the meds you reference, And I just wanted to confirm the obvious initial therapy had been tried. I’m very sorry for your pain and struggles to address. I have garden variety GERD and have had to switch from my PPI Nexium to an H2 agonist, Pepcid. Not as good in my opinion but I developed microscopic colitis last year and PPIs can be a medication trigger.
I wish you luck and healing.
I’ve tried the PPI route but they can be more harmful than good . Not meant for long time treatment either .
I take generic Pepcid sometimes as well .
Not much helps 🙁 .
Stay well .
Yea I was on Nexium for 15 years before the GI doc said to stop last year. Pepcid is just ok in my opinion.
Generalizing is mostly not fair assessment. It might be, more or less, acceptable for carbonated drinks, but not fruit juice.
Can I drink orange juice if I have gastritis?
Avoid caffeine, sugary drinks, sodas, and acidic fruit juices (especially orange or tomato juice). In addition to regular coffee, you may need to avoid decaffeinated coffee as it can be highly acidic.6 Other forms of caffeine, including black tea, green tea, hot cocoa, and energy drinks, should also be avoided.
