Very sorry to hear what happened to your hospital in Asheville. Your city is unique; I love the art deco downtown!
Are you a prostate cancer patient? If so, have you had scans done, and/or a biopsy?
I come to Asheville several times/year, great town and area!
FYI, there is a cancer center near Greenville SC (think the name is Gibbs Cancer Center) that offers CyberKnife (aka SBRT), Brachytherapy and EBRT.
There is also a Proton radiation therapy center in Knoxville TN, a couple of hours west on I-40.
Closer to those in the southeast part of the country is the City of Hope just south of Atlanta. It was formerly one of the hospitals in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America group. I went to the CTCA in Zion, IL, years ago when I had my cancer (not prostate), but my son (with prostate cancer) who lives in N.C. did go to the City of Hope in Atlanta. It treats only cancer patients. Zion was devoted to it's cancer patients from custodians to the Board of Directors, and you 'felt' it. It may be worth a call for second opinions or affirmation of your first diagnosis.
I understand and live in Waynesville, and have been a patient at Mayo JaX for several years. I have to begin treatment either Radiation or Surgery very soon and finding it difficult to make the decision. Technology is not the same here, nor medical staff availability. However spending weeks in FL for treatment, then aftercare etc with a home, pets etc??
