I also need to add that a shot only can help if they know exactly what kind of virus it is. Are they magically going to predict the future?

Vaccines are developed from viruses currently circulating. Covid vaccines were recently tweaked to defend against mutations. Vaccinations prepare for the future. You get a vaccination for each virus. Then your immune system develops antibodies to each virus. Your immune system thus has a head start in mounting a defense if you contract one of the viruses.
