Block in nephrostomy bad

Posted by cheyward @cheyward, Dec 16, 2023

My mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer back in febuary of 2023. since it went undiagnosed for over nine years she has been through a radiation, chemo, had bilateral nephrostomy tubes, and an ileostomy bag put in. She recently started having dark red blood and blood clots coming out of her right kidney. Hospital is telling her that there isnt anything wrong but i feel like they are missing something or overlooking something causing the blood and clots. I'm curious if anyone has experienced this or has any suggestion at what to do.

Perhaps she should see a Nephrologist.

I told her she should go back but she didn’t want to because it was one day after she got out of the hospital. It’s been a struggle with that one.

Having somewhat the same experience being frustrated about what appear to be constant trips to the Doctor's offices.

She’s been to the hospital so much that we know every nurse by name and they know her by name. Just this year she’s spent over half of it in and out of the hospital

She has my sympathy and pray she recovers.

I assume the nephrostomy tubes were inserted by an Interventional Radiologist ( I practiced this for over 40 years and placed hundreds of nephrostomies). If so, she needs to schedule an appointment to go back and see them. Bleeding after placement of the tube through the kidney can sometimes cross a blood vessel and may require more treatment.

She’s had the tubes for months with no bleeding the way she was.
