Posted by cincy @cincy, Dec 11, 2023

Has anyone experience some blurry vision after first dose of Evenity and how long does it last????

I am at 11 months of Evenity. I just had my annual scan and one area was worse, the other slightly better. Apparently there’s some new software that allows the doctors to evaluate whether the ‘structure’ of bone has improved (something Evenity is known for). I’m still waiting to hear about this. In the meantime, I’ll take the 12th injection and then move to Reclast. About pain with the injections - I usually get them in my arms. I don’t much feel the needles but I get some swelling and heat at the injection sites for a few days afterwards. It gradually subsides. It’s not great but not a major problem either.

Is that the trabecular scan? I wonder if there is a thread for that.

Just completed my 10th injection, this one in my thighs as arms suffer on-going soreness. A few other sites have some soreness: left toe pads that requires padded shoes and left hip soreness. Reactions are minor enough that I'll finish the last two injections and see how the bone scan goes.

What is the current best measure of bone density.

I don't have an answer to your question but I wonder if you would be willing to comment on your choice of follow-up drug. Thanks in advance and good luck to you...I just had my fourth shots of evenity.

Finished November 2023 all 12 injection. Minor irritation and tiredness for a day and occasional headache. Honestly no problems at all!! DXA 13.8% gain in BMD in spine (-3.1 to -2.5) and total femur 5.4% increase in BMD (-3.0 to -2.7) and femoral neck increase BMD of 8.1% (-3.3 to -3.0). and no fractures!!

Still working on it and reluctantly taking alendronate weekly by mouth with so far just 2 episodes of GERD resolved
with minor use of antacids. I do feel lucky i’ve tolerated these drugs and know everyone is very different but this has been my experience. Best to you!!

Going on 8th injections this week. I agree with some who say they have some joint pain but most of us probably have some sort of arthritis so I can't definitely say any joint pain is from Evenity. So far I have tolerated the shots well and am hopeful for some significant change in my spine numbers which are alarming (-4.0). I have been on courses of fosamax for years -only to see my scores get worse. I exercise regularly (walking and treadmill and stationary bike) but might need to push the weights more.

Have you heard yet about the new software that measures the structure of the bone's improvement? Maybe one with less or no radiation? On the radio last night I heard an ad for a greately diminished CT type scan--lower in cost and radiation. Have you, or has anyone , heard about that?
I am due for my second infusion of Evenity next week. So far so good.

Dec 16 2023. I have stage o osteonecrosis of the jaw( dx by maxillofacial surgeon) after third Evenity injection( my endocrinologist did not examine my mouth before initiating Evenity) ? Now I need dental procedures , 18 days after my last dose, 11/28/23. Apparently extraction often can precipitate severe Osteonecrosis of the jaw. Is this Endocrinologist negligent. Should I be on antibiotics or should I go ahead with the coronectomy ? It will expose almost as much bone as an extraction?????

I'm thinking of monitoring my bone density first to see if I need a followup which I probably will. My doctor suggests Prolia.

My endocrinologist said I had to see my dentist prior to the infusions. Have you been told how long it takes to wear off the infusions before getting dental work? I'm not sure but I think I have read that antibiotics are used in these instances.

Did you have any symptoms of the osteonecrosis ? I don’t think endocrinologist are qualified for mouth / teeth examination . It would be a periodontist or maxillofacial Md .
