Hand Pain
The middle finger of my left hand sticks when bent and has to be physically straightened. Today it really stuck and now the top of my hand is very painful. What have I done what will lesson the pain. I have taped it up for the time being

I've to keep reminding myself that grip strength is a separate measure of general fitness; it's also gets neglected especially in our smart current life of our phone/computer dependent activities.
While I get much exertion to wrist and hand with yoga poses and dips in stair wells, and carrying over 20+ lbs of groceries thru buses/subways, I need what squeezing a tennis ball helps with (or scraping a potato). Depending on one's ability and age, one can improve it before it gets too advanced. I can barely do one-and a half pull up if I find a branch at my level on my walk on my 80 yr frame. So far no constraints on my daily activities, thank goodness.
Sooo important. I have RA and grip strength - or lack of - has been a key feature of my symptom complex since onset of the disease 12 years ago.
I'm no doctor, but I've seen ads for a condition called TD, where one of the fingers won't lay flat when paced on a flat surface. There is some non-surgical approach using a medication. Might be worth getting it checked out.
PS... I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express last night, either.
can u provide more details of TD
I don’t know about TD but you are describing Duyputren Contracture. It’s when a tendon becomes tethered at the base, drawing a finger in toward the palm. Eventually you can No longer straighten it - meaning you fail the tabletop test and can no longer lie your hand flat on the table. That’s a Medicare Requirement to obtain approval for surgery.
Its related to trigger finger but the latter can be relieved by steroid injections.
I’ve had both in multiple fingers. I’ve had the surgery. And I’m getting ready to have it again in January.
Sorry, my bad. It's actually Dupuytren's contracture. It occurs when there is a thickening of the tissue in the palm. Over time, it can cause one or fingers to curl inward (contract), pulling the fingers inward, making it difficult or impossible for them to lie flat on a flat surface. John Elway is the person hawking it on tv.
You are 100% correct. My brain knew what it wanted to say, but the words got all scrambled up trying to get down to my typing fingers. Sorry about that.
😁 I’m the last person you should apologize to for word salad.
