Post catheter cramping after radical prostatectomy (RP)
Hi all, has anyone experienced cramping during urination after the catheter was removed following your RP? I had the catheter removed on day 7 (today), good flow, and emptying, but lots of cramping after elimination.
Any others experience this?

I never experienced cramping but my surgeon prescribed and I took a week-long regime of some anti-cramping pill. Can’t remember the name and have since thrown the bottle away.
Here's my speculation...part of the bladder (the"neck", where the urine exits into the urethra) has been removed. That area is now swollen with occasional blood still oozing from the suture area. The bladder, a bag of muscle, responds by doing what it knows best -- contracting. If it's a big bother, there are medicines like Urispas or Ditropan which "calm" the bladder. They have side effects like dry mouth. Over the next month, in my own experience, the bladder heals and the irritation subsides.
If you see red blood or clots coming out, let your doctor know.
I had same problem. It was gone after several weeks. Intensity diminishes during that period.
Thanks for the reply’s. I found out I have a small leak at the bladder/urethra suture site and that was causing the pain. Catheter back in for 5 more days, but pain is resolved.
Bladder spasms. I had them too, they can be painful.
