The VA recommended "Ensure," a possible downside being it's high sugar content. After finishing Chemo infusion #4, the possibility of bladder/protate surgery is fairly high. I had been supplied with 2 bottles of Ensure per day, but that has been reduced to just 1, because of high sugar. . I have no idea if I will be supplied with any at all after possible surgery.
I need to start one of those drinks 5 days before my surgery at home and have a choice of several to buy and I think all of them or most of them are high in sugar. I’m just interested in which one tastes the best since I’ll be drinking a couple a day starting next week. Surgery (total colon removal with permanent ileostomy) on December 21. Thanks for any help.

I agree there are several to choose from. When I had an ileostomy for 2 1\2 years I preferred Boost high protein. If you have to watch sugar content there is Glucerna but I never tried it. Best Wishes on your procedure. The hospital should have an ostomy nurse to help you.

I found the best one for me. Ensure Max. 30 grams protein; only 1 gram sugar and 150 calories. Not too filling, and pretty delicious. By far the highest protein content and the lowest sugar. Great for when you need to max nutrition!
I’ve had the strawberry (my favorite), and french vanilla. There are lots more choices. 😋

Thank you so much! I’m honestly hoping to find one that I LIKE so it’s not another “medicine” that I have to take and don’t want to!! I want it to taste good as well as being nutritious. I will try it. 😇

My Mayo team recommended Premier Protein with 30 grams of protein and only 1 gram of sugar. It’s tasty and dresses up nicely as a smoothie with
banana/strawberries/coffee.

Just keep them in the fridge - they’re SO much better when they’re cold!
Good luck😘
The "Ensure" chocolate is my favorite, quite tasty.
Be sure to shake them vigorously, there's always a layer of sediment on the bottom.
The VA has cut me back from 2 per day to 1.
Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.
Thanks, I'll have to ask the VA about Ensure Max, never heard of it.

That sounds like a winner! Love my smoothies! Thank you!!
