Uncontrollable loose bowels: When does it get better?

Posted by mallika58 @mallika58, Oct 30, 2022

I am a stage 4 CRC patient. Two liver surgeries have been done to remove tumor from both livers. Now the primary in upper rectum is being addressed. Two weeks ago I completed 25 cycles of radiation concurrent with oral chemo ( Xeloda capsules). Now I am completely grounded. Have to make bathroom visits almost every half hour and often there’s a loss of control. Gas formations are frequent, food taste has completely gone.
Doctors say this is expected and will get better with time !
How long does it take for above effects to significantly reduce and go away. Miserable situation.
Thanks for your inputs

We were never told to listen to our body and do what it told us to do or not to do. About a third of my GI track has been removed, including all of my sigmoid. I never was very active nor wanted to be. Unless you are a teenager and have to prove to someone that you are better than the entire school. It is time to slow down and listen to your body. You don't have to ride your bike as fast as you can, slow down and smell the roses for the first time. You don't have to swim the fastest laps, to set any records, try swimming the slowest laps. Choose one of your favorite activities and do it, not all of them. You are not stubborn you are just trying to destroy your body. We are given only one body and if we don't take care of it, it will be taken away from us. Each time we have a birthday we have to remind ourselves that we cannot do everything we did last year and have to s-l-o-w down if we want to see our next birthday. Don't destroy your body, take care of it. Good luck. mlmcg

I feel sorry for you. By your own admission, you were "never active", and your preferance has been to sit on the sideline and watch the world go by. That is your choice, but don't be so ARROGANT to pass judgement on me. I have ALWAYS been active and FIT. My lifelong activities that I mentioned are not for olympic tryouts, but my choice of leisure activities. My surgery was a complication from divirticukitis and being blessed witb DEEP POCKETS in my sigmoid colon, that would catch random food items. Apart from this surgery, and I am almost 67, my bloodwork is pristine, my bonds are like a 40 year old, I am NOT overweight, and except for a capful of myralax at night, I do NOT now, nor have I EVER taken ANY daily medication. I would venture to say this is NOT your situation. So- DON'T THROW STONES! This site is meant to ENCOURAGE people, so do everyone a favor and REMOVE YOUR MISERABLE SELF.
