Invasive ductal carcinoma and length of radiation treatment

My oncologist said I’m going to have radiation for 3 weeks only.is this enough.I thought 4 weeks is the standard .radiation is not to whole breast.only in the spot where the mass was

I am currently doing 4 weeks of radiation. 3 weeks to the whole breast (my right) and 1 week of a Boost aimed just where the tumor was.
They haven’t asked me to hold my breath but that could be because mine is on the right and not the left, but I’m not positive about that.

I believe you are correct. I am currently taking radiation due to I had breast cancer on the left. My doctor told me you have to hold your breath so it moves your chest up to avoid it going to your heart which is on the left side. I am currently doing 3 weeks of radiation due to mine was caught early & small. My prayers to anyone who is in recovery pre-, during or post treatment. Best wishes!

I had invasive ductal cancer. I was stage 2 with 2 lymph nodes positive. Had radiation for 6 weeks which the last few were more intense. Taking anastrozole for 5 -7 years. Been cancer free since my surgery back in May of 2022.

I had IDC Stage 1A with clear margins and lymph nodes after a lumpectomy at the Mayo. Lower left quadrant of left breast. Unfortunately, oncotype testing indicated I needed 3 months of chemo, which I just completed. That was more fun than the law allows. 3 weeks of once a day M-F targeted radiation start Monday. As a swimmer, I'm used to taking big breaths that inflate the chest and pull in the gut. As I went through the set-up for radiation, I was told the beam cuts off if my chest deflates from the targeted position and gets too close to the heart. Sounds good to me.

I have the same 1A clear margins and onctype was right on the cusp. I'm 48 perimenopausal, and decided not to move forward with chemo but I did complete 3 weeks of radiation treatment. They now want me to start Lupron and Anastrozole, but may do just tamoxifen. Going to see a new oncologist. I did know I would have to do hormone therapy but I did not know it was as aggressive as these meds are. I'm scared and can't wait to see what other doctor has to say.

My sister has been on post-lumpectomy hormone suppressors for 8.5 years without a problem. I realize that may make her an outlier. She had DCIS but an oncotype score low enough to avoid chemo. She did have radiation. I'm concerned about side effects to come myself.
