The active ingredient in Metamucil is psillium husks, which can be added to foods and is much cheaper than using the brand. Some folk use ground flax seed as well. Both are high in insoluble and soluable fiber (take with lots of water).

I’ve looked into that, but what about the way it has of jelling up? Isn’t that another ingredient? That jell feature seems helpful with my constipation.
