Gratitude

We are blessed and grateful today. A year ago, our winter home community had become an uncomfortable place to be. Poor management, unhappy residents - no joy. Today was the polar opposite - new management, many new neighbors, joy, fellowship and great food. Truly a blessing to the retirees and young families who live here, and an inclusive place for our diverse staff.

I just wanted to say how grateful I am to my dad who passed away 36 years ago today. He put his finger in my mouth during my first seizure and had a scar to prove it. I always felt bad about hurting him but grateful that he prevented me from chewing up my tongue & cheeks. If anyone ever made hateful comments when I had a seizure in public he always put them in their place. All that he did for me is incalculable. I miss you so much dad. All the love in the world falls far short of how much I love you.

I did the same thing probably 40 years ago. A man had a seizure in a department store and everyone stood around so I held his bottom jaw in place, then pulled his tongue out till he calmed down.

MY BUILDING WAS CONDEMNED! A year ago, I was a resident of a hotel, whose owner abandoned the building because the property owner didn't renew the lease. Drug users took over. I had to breathe foul, burned heroin fumes. I rarely left my room for fear that the interlopers would break in while I was gone. Twice, one man started to break into my door while I was inside! There were frequent confrontations between residents and squatters. A man with a gun went door to door (not to mine), looking for someone. The police tackled him in the middle of our busy street, while drivers didn't even stop. Our fearless defenders were a couple of mothers! I spent most of my time monitoring the hallway through my door's peep hole. Copper thieves took a pipe, leaving everyone without water. At 4:00 am, a lady poured five gallons of gas inside my hallway's entrance but luckily didn't light the gas! Firefighters prompted the City to take action. The police came to my door and said, "You have to leave. The building has been condemned. If you don't leave, you will be arrested." Then firefighters smashed down our doors! I am oh so thankful that I got out of that danger! I hotel-hopped before moving to a homeless shelter that will close in a couple of months.

No housing prospects. Today, I am hoping to come across a decent movie on Tubi. I semi-watch television while I surf the web. This morning, I watched "Seed," which seems to be a movie about people who graft skin onto apple trees. Then I watched a zombie movie: A topless woman claws a man to death and rips out his liver.

Amen to that. "In everything give thanks" I Thess. 5:18. I am so grateful for God, family, church and for all of you on here. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone today. God Bless each and everyone of you.

Wish more people understand seizures. Most often it's not the person's fault. Just spent the last 4 days with my son, his wife and 3 grandchildren.
