Has anyone had luck with kyphoplasty for compression fractures.
I am having kyphoplasty on December5, for l1 and l2.
I have osteoporosis and hope this wil stabilize my spine.
Has anyone else had this procedure?
Thank you!

harvard has said that whether you allow the break to heal or have the surgery the results are the same. this is whyni did not do it. myy fracture was almost completely healed so there really ws no reason to do it. according to harvard medical ithe surgery does nothing more than regular healing in strngthening the vertabrea and there can always be complications also sometimes the pain is still there
the pain can be excuciating and they will take xrays and probably will see it. some people have had fractures and say they did not know but i think that maybe they think it could be a pulled muscle as i thought in the beginning
Thank you, still not sure what to do.
thank you so much for your reply @proliamistake!
I'm asking because 6mo before my op diagnosis I had an episode of 'chest pain' right under my left breast shooting to my back after gardening. at the time i have to sit down and the pain persisted for about couple hours. I thought I had pulled a muscle. after that episode for about half a year I would have mild pain or discomfort at that same point/area towards evening time which would be relieved if I lie down. lately I haven't felt anything. guess I will ask my doctor if she wants to double check my spine.
it is possible you had a compression fracture it takes about 12 wks to heal but usually after 6 wks the pain gets better. they can tell by xrays usually definitely a cat scan. it just amazes me how little some drs know. my dr said i had a pulled muscle from coughing from a cold WRONG it was a double compression fracture
That is pretty sad that I had it done to begin with then. Thanks for your response.
well just like me you found out after the fact but it all depends on the fracture
the main reason i let my fractures heal was i am so allergic to so many things and a friend of ours thought if i had a reaction to the cement it wwould be irreversible but it does depend on how bad the break is and how much pain you have. i just also did not like being put out again
I also feel that it’s so iffy.
It might help, or not.
To go through kyphoplasty and all the recovery, and find out it didn’t work for you, would be depressing.
The doctor did say, it will heal on its own.
Thanks for your help.
I decided not to do it.
it's so kind of you to explain it to me @proliamistake. I checked with my cardiologist at the time to rule out heart related problem but never thought that it might be spine related, hence never communicated this with my op treating physician. will definitely ask her opinion if imaging study is needed one and a half year after the incident
Happy Thanksgiving!
