Collagen for osteoporosis?
My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

There is a big discussion going on about putting collagen in hot drinks. Most scientists say it would take a pretty high temperatures to degrade any collagen peptides to the point that they would no longer be functional. When we read studies online we always find disagreements and we wind up making as intelligent a decision as possible. Most agree that certain collagens are beneficial as a supplement regardless of how you use them.
I will continue to put my daily collagen in my coffee every day as I have done for the last 5 years or so. My coffee is not steaming hot by any means but that is not a concern to me. Everyone needs to do what they think best.
Thanks for bringing this up and people should read your link and then read some other views and make a decision.

I started marine collagen vital proteins as I have osteoporosis. But I also have dense breasts and now am second guessing my decision after research on how collagen plays a role in tumors and dense breasts. Does anyone have the same concerns? I am overwhelmed by all this
I don’t take calcium supplements but eat greek yogurt and low fat cheese. Have you considered D3 if you don’t have much sun and. K2 (M7 ) as well ? Apparently K2 and D3 need to be taken with some fat and at different times of the day
@sc614 may I ask why marine collagen? are they better? if you are concerned about its effect on dense breast tissue, would a yearly mammogram help you with your concern? I take just one scoop daily of vital proteins collagen peptides (bovine) just not to miss anything :). it is said that if we consume enough quality protein, usually from animal source, we'd get all the essential amino acids that we need since these protein will break down to amino acids anyway. I do take type II collagen as a pill form daily.
it's good to know to take k2 and d3 at different time during the day, thank you!
I'm trying to get enough calcium and k2 naturally from food, can be challenging. with d3, I noticed that I have to take a very large dose of 4000-6000 daily, especially during winter to get a good blood level
Thanks for the reply! I am not a fan of beef or other meat besides chicken and had trouble thinking about ingesting bovine collagen ( fish bones seemed better I guess!!) I get yearly mammograms and have ultrasounds done as well but feel worried about the studies on collagen and dense breasts because some are inconclusive while other articles say there is a connection to tumors in dense breast tissue.
I know k2 is tricky to get from food (unlike k1) unless you eat liver or fermented foods. It’s all so confusing.
I also read 3 -4 prunes daily have been discovered to help with building bone Health
Thank you for sharing about the prunes.
looking into natto: it has highest amount of k2 (also its variety) among fermented food! you dont need to take a lot daily. the only problenm is one has to adjust to its taste... additionally natto has benefits to cardiovascular system
does anyone know what prunes' story is? they have lots of fiber and potassium. how do they help with bones?
I can forward the link if I can figure out how to link the article!
