My stool softeners and miralax aren't working, how come?
I've been struggling with stomach issues for a long time now and it runs in my family. I went to the hospital recently and had to have a GI clean out through an NG tube. When I was discharged from the hospital they told me to take one stool softener at night and one stool softener in the morning and one capful of miralax each day. But it stopped working. I'm in a crazy amount of pain. I had a CT scan done when I was in the hospital, it showed I had stool stuck almost half way through my colon. But before my stay in the hospital, I had been to many other hospitals. No one could find anything, until I had that CT scan. iv had both scopes done, but the doctor didn't see anything wrong. I have no clue if it has something to do with it but I have really bad hashimoto. I have no idea what to do now. Please help me with what I should do next. Please and thank you.

Thank you! I will try chia seed!
Hello,
Are you by chance on a high protein diet or taking a whey protein?
If so that can create a bad problem if you’re not getting enough fiber in your diet as well!
Resolution that works wonders for me; a banana everyday, apple is great too, if you eat bread switch to whole grain that contains protein and fiber, add a heaping tablespoon of Metamucil (sugar free)to your protein shake or if not doing protein do a heaping teaspoon Metamucil drink 3 times daily!
If you are a Costco member try the Kirkland brand as it is way cheaper and contains the same ingredients, however if cost isn’t a factor the Metamucil brand does have a bit better orange flavor!
Hope this helps,
MOJO
My GI said to take a dose of miralax with 8 Oz of liquid with each meal. Trying that now.
Is it possible, that Miralax is causing Mr to have bad breath
Yes, I do have complete dental care everday, often 3 times a day..
Thankyou
I have heard some good things about EMMA capsules from Dr. Gina Sam, MD - you can google that!
May need to take a magnesium supplement.
Have you tried taking a good magnesium supplement?
Wow, baking soda & water?!!
That’s interesting.
Anyone else tried this?
Mineral oil is a lubricant. If you have something stuck and are in pain, have you considered a maximum dose of a regular laxative? I use Colace 2 in 1 (stimulant and softener) when I am in distress as it works while being gentle. Miralax doesn't give me any result but nausea.
High protein diets do make for hard stool for me. I have had to focus on food with lots of water in it (soup, hot cereal, hot drinks, water) and chia powder (easier for me to digest and its vitamin/mineral benefits are more available) and protein more digestible than meat (fin fish and egg whites).
Anytime something is stuck, I go for a stimulant laxative -- which I don't consider Miralax to be at all. Once you are clear, then go for dietary changes, other supplements, etc.
Yes, others have used this remedy; Myself, my Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and all of their off springs!
