I am 75 and the one thing that does help me is to keep active I start slowly with some stretching Ages ago the class I took when first diagnosed was to tighten your muscles then relax but I have to exercise then Epsom salts when U hurt ,mine is my thighs.,but to sit all day isn't good. When a flare up ,I don't want to do it but gradually I start Tramadol when needed.Advil and Tumeric on those days.
dear justin, the knee is worse. thank you for caring. this is about the beginning of the fourth month now. i made an appointment with a group of doctors that say they have a way of getting the needle to the exact or correct spot to insert. i need to wait about 17 more days for the appointment. who knows? is this a way to get customers? will go anyway. my knee hurts in the inside part of the knee close to the other leg. the outer part is fine. never had this happen before. it is usually the entire knee like the pain wraps around it. will let you know.
yes I forgot, I do an exercise program also...daily stretches. Since 2014 I have many different ones to exercise my limbs, neck, back, trunk, etc. Some are in a sitting position. Very good especially when you can't walk or be very active to keep your core strong. I heard tumeric was excellent as an anti-inflammatory and people having positive experiences with it. I have gastroparesis, so my stomach is very sensitive to many medicines and tried the powder...went so so.
My stomach is website but I use Turmeric incapable for, drink a lot of milk with it for pain I found a tea that works for me it's Arnica tea I found it at Rite Aid
Sorry I hate this word spell .As I said my stomach is sensitive so I take Turmeric with milk
I do not like milk lol but eat yogurt. I have it in powder. The nerves to my stomach are damaged (gastroparesis); so many drugs just stay there causing nausea and vomiting. Very sensitive. Gummy and chewable vitamins I also need to take. The turmeric powder I just look at because of the former nausea/vomiting I used to get. I should try it with yogurt again I guess. Wish they'd have chewable or gummies. I needed botox for my LES in the stomach due to constant nausea and vomiting daily. Leaves that bad "memory". Some of my medications and cervical cord compression were the cause.
So sorry to hear about your stomach ,hard to deal with pills. Can out do the patch like Lidocaine transdermal patch? Or any of the pain patches?
I have had a failed lumbar fusion L5 -S1 in November 2011 and a cervical fusion in February 2017. With Lumbar fusion I knew something wasnt right the 1st week. Nobody should have been in that much pain. Oh the extreme leg, feet and ankle cramps. The extreme fasiculations that they say are harmless but not when your whole muscle is going off your bone. 6 years later pain isnt any better in low back. Its my understanding nerves are wrapped up within my fusion. No dr wants to touch it. Had a dura tear too. Been to several different neurologist and i always get the impression they dont want to touch someone elses work. The neurologist that did my neck his assistant said we will just send you back to original dr. Really why would i go back there. Had to learn to walk right after. Any small dent in ground would make me fall. Tried all the standards after, nothing helps. Been in pain mgt for 6 yrs. New Dr beliefs are to lower pain meds. I was on a month reduction program. Its not working..quality of life is reduced more...Had 2 buldges in neck, they only fixed one, said other one wasnt touching spinal cord, well now hands and arms are more numb than the 1st time. Only can imagine 2 buldge is touching now. Just had recent lumbar mri and yep other disc are going bad now. What an introduction....
Hello @dkrobinson,
That was quite an introduction, but one I am sure fellow Connect members can relate to and appreciate. I am sorry to hear about your past 6 years and the frustration you have had with your back issues. If I may, I suggest checking out the following discussion that is centered around back surgeries. In the discussion you will meet many other members who know what you are going through, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/surgical-solutions-to-chronic-cervicalback-pain/.
I recommend clicking on the above link and reading through some of the other members' stories and solutions. I look forward to reading more about you.
Thank you for the update. I had an injection on my left shoulder a few months back. They used ultrasound to find the right spot. It was a weird sensation and I was also told that it would take up to ten days to feel the affect. I also did not notice a huge difference. However, now that it has passed I do think it helped but I was just not aware of it in the morning. I wish you success and would love to hear your progress.
