Forteo Costs

Posted by leeosteo @leeosteo, Aug 16, 2023

I will be starting Forteo soon. My medicare plan D covers both Forteo brand and Teriparatide generic. My monthly cost is roughly $1500/mos. Is anyone aware of additional programs to cover the cost? I'm not eligible for the Forteo Savings card as I'm on medicare. Nor am I eligible for the Lilly Foundation program as my income is over $78k.

Second question. From what I've read so far it looks like the cost of needles is not covered in the plan costs, rather an additional cost outside the plan. If this is correct, where are you purchasing these needles and what is the ball park cost?

I'm hoping my questions will help others as well.

RX Advocates works with Lilly programs to help you get it even though you have Medicare. without RX Advocates you can't get the price down low enough cause Lilly only .accepts commercial insurance

I couldn't afford forteo 8 years ago. Got it for free when I applied to their company assistance plan.

Goldrx has a coupon for Rite Aid. There is no cost to use Goldrx. I got three pens. The price ended up being 738$ per pen. There is a discount for the purchase of three. This is with no insurance. It is the generic Bonsity now just called teriparatide. It is by Alvogen.
I got my first pen in Singapore 1000$ with no insurance. I'm told it is 1000$ in Canada. Mexico has their own generic for 600$ per pen.
Thats a lot of money for drugs every months, but teriparatide is magic for me.
Needles not covered. 38$ or 45$ sorry can't remember. Free in Singapore.

Did you mean GoodRX instead of GoldRX?

Do you have a link for GoldRX?

@goodbones

If you are not on government assisted insurance you can contact Eli Lily's co-pay assistance. I was going to have to pay $4300 with insurance--with this co-pay assistance it is $4!!! I asked why this couldn't be the same amount for everyone--they had no response...

0611945cc, this is the best! With RX Advocate you have to pay $70 a month. Can you post the phone on the Eli Lilly. Is there an income exclusion. thanks

Years ago Lilly offered full payment. Then, for several years, pharmaceutical companies couldn't provide assistance unless you had commercial insurance. This year the restriction changed so that medicare patients are no longer precluded from assistance. How long ago did you get the co-pay assistance card.

As you can see, this card says if you have Medicare you’re not eligible.
