"The pain and numbness may go away right after surgery or may take several months (up to 12 months) to subside, depending on the degree of median nerve damage from prolonged compression in the carpal tunnel. Try to avoid heavy use of your hand for up to 3 months."
It's good your surgeon is sending you for nerve conduction testing. The nerves usually regenerate from damage and even from severance. Let us know your results.
