I have a menigioma. Should I wait or go ahead with surgery?

You are smart to wait. I found out in April 2023 that these mild symptoms I had been experiencing for the past 5 years was a 3 cm. meningioma 1/16 of an inch from my optic nerve. We had a lot of family/grandchildren summer plans (Hawaii, boating at the lake, birthday celebrations) and I held out until this past October to have the surgery. I am so glad I did because I am having a difficult recovery. My main issue is double vision from what we hope is that my brain is still somewhat swollen from the surgery itself and pressing on the optic nerve. (An MRI done after the surgery confirmed that the optic nerve was not damaged from the surgery itself.) My point being, I agree with you postponing your surgery till after your daughter's wedding because there is no assurance with regard to how long your recovery will take. But, then again, as I mentioned in a prior post, the location of the meningioma makes all the difference. If yours isn't close to the optic nerve or another critical structure you could be perfectly fine in as little as 3 months.

Does Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville have virtual apt for meningioma? Who to schedule apt with?

patbaret.......I also have a Meningioma and called Jacksonville Mayo. They told me I would have to go to Rochester, Minnesota to their main branch to have them look at it. I was told they don't do Meningioma's in Jacksonville. : (

Wow, I did not know that. I was told to go to Mayo Jacksonville Fl. Guess I will stay with USF Tampa.
I do know that Columbia in NY does virtual consults. Watch a MD on utube. He was excellent and sounded caring.

patbaret.....Thanks for the tip....I will check Columbia out. We are in Atlanta and were hoping Jacksonville was an option for us. Not interested in going to Minn. in the cold weather w/o the clothes (and boots) for it after so many years in the south. Will have to wait till next July if we head up there. : )

Do you have a Neurosurgeon in Tampa that u recommend for a second opinion? I have a good one here in Atlanta but Mayo has such a good reputation that I'd like a second opinion from them...or maybe more depending on the dr. We lived in Naples for 34 years and I'am tempted to go back there where I have the contacts to find out who to go to for a second opinion. This sure is stressful!!

Yes, very extremely stressful and feel I am just trying to find my way. Have been looking on line for a good NS. USF Tampa General has some very good doctors. I live in Lakekand and they have a satillite here. Seeing a Dr Cochi who I know little about but trained by Dr Agazzi who has 5 stars and very good reviews. One da at a time for me. Apt Tuesday which will be my first. How did this happen to me? Just feeling sorry for myself. The saying goes, if given a lemon, make lemon aid. So, this guy is my lemon.

I had a MRI in February
due to some pressure and dizziness.
Results indicated a 4.5cm.right superior parietal mass extending to the superior dural surface.
Immediately made an appt at OSU James Cancer hospital.
Had a craniotomy on Feb 28.
They said it was a meningioma and are most always benign .
In ICU for several days, ready to go home, and the pathology came back malignant.
Determined it was a solitary fibrous tumor of the CNS. Grade III. Very rare.
Had 6 weeks of daily radiation.
I feel like it was a miracle and because of lots of prayers and support - I am still here!
Follow up MRIs and PET scan have been good. Will continue every 3 months.
Exercising, yoga, eating healthy and prayers.
I wouldn’t wait, take care and stay positive!
