Hi Jim, thanks for responding so quickly. I have cervical facet joint problems and myofascial pain syndrome and was just looking to see what other people do to help their chronic pain. I get facet joint injections about every 6-9 months and they work very good for me at this time. I used various other things to help with the myofascial pain.

Hello @lyssia,

I would like to add my welcome to Jim's. Like Jim said, the activity level of certain discussions is completely dependent on when the most recent post has been made. As you can imagine, discussions wax and wain as time goes on, but that should not discourage you from participating in them and trying to reignite them. A helpful piece of advice if you are replying by email is to scroll to the bottom of your email and click on VIEW & REPLY so you can see the full discussions in the proper order.

Hello lyssia, I noticed that you have myofascial pain syndrome, and I have been diagnosed with Trigeminal nerve as well as Burning Mouth Syndrome. A dentist thinks I also have TMJ. What is myofascial pain syndrome? What kind of joint injections do you get?
Thanks so much.

Hi @lauren123, myofascial pain syndrome is when the fascia (connective tissue that covers the muscles) is injured and causes painful muscle spasms with trigger points. I usually get trigger point injections (with an anesthetic) when they are really bad, I also use other techniques as well such as my tens unit, lidocaine patch, muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, heating pad and my hand held massager. I will occasionally use pain meds if I can't get relief from any of the other things I have tried. For my Facet Joint problem I take some pain meds when I have a flare up but the injections I get are steroid injections to the affected joints in my neck and so far they have always relieved the pain for 6-9 months. I get really bad headaches and pain down my shoulders/back when it is time to get the injections again. Hope I explained the syndrome good. What is the Trigeminal nerve?
