What Does Everyone Have For Pain Medication?

Posted by nuggetofmine @nuggetofmine, May 18, 2023

My husband is two months out from chemo/radiation treatment for stage 3 esophageal cancer. There is lymph node involvement (2), but the oncologist said he'd consider it a stage 3. The tumor did shrink, but hasn't disappeared. We just found out he is not a candidate for surgery. He was prescribed 5mg. Oxycodone twice a day for the pain throughout treatment. He is in the process of being weaned off. I am so concerned about the pain. I don't know if there are other things he can take to address this pain that doubles him up and makes tears run down his cheeks. I know there is a huge concern about opioids, but there must be something he can take that will help.

I’m not seeing any mention of medical marijuana here. My sister cannot swallow, only thin liquids and is in very bad pain with unrelenting nausea. None of the meds rx’d touch it, plus she can now no longer get a pill down. (No medical treatment plan for her yet, they haven’t even staged it.)Cancer survivor friend(s)— said pot was the only thing that touched nausea and pain. Sister started with sub lingual drops and they have offered relief. She is able to function, balance is good. And the thought of food doesn’t make her ill. Talking with the pot people helped her choose an appropriate mixture. In California, so we do have the pot shops. Talk with your doctors and see if it’s a possibility. They’re doing amazing things combatting this disease, keep up the good fight, thinking of you and your family.

Hello! we live in Sacramento area, CA too.
Do you know what type of mixture she got from the medical marijuana ?
I don't even know how and where to start.
My husband pain increased a lot the last 2 days. Oxycodone, was less effective than Ibuprofen.
Thank you.

Let me find out and will advise. Medical pros cannot recommend because it's not fDA approved, but without it, she is absolutely miserable. She uses a tincture under her tongue every 4 hrs and for breakthrough pain she has a cool pen. I'm at UCD with her right now. Let me find out the name of the shop, who helped her pick out what she needed.

Hello,
Yes, please.
I went to the store and bought a low dosage, 4:1 (high-CDB, medium -THC) for day use, and 10:5 for night. He had first, 1 drop sub-lingual, didn't do much, after 2 drops and took the edge off and made him sleepy.
My husband is hesitated to use, because he thinks might interact with the chemo.
What is a cool pen?

Update: Last night he had the 10:5 dosage, it worked like a charm for now.
The lower dosage 4:1 3 drops, he can hold for 4 hours.
So far its a better option than Oxycodone.
For the stomach pain, was prescribed Pantoprazole once a day, his feeling much better too. Maybe he was developing gastritis too.

Connect with pain management if you haven’t. My spouse had a celiac nerve block/neurolysis and it has helped tremendously with stage 4 EC pain. Also on a pain patch but has been reducing pain meds since the celiac procedure. Chemo and immunotherapy also seemed to have helped some. Pending round 4 and the next PET scan in a few weeks.
