I started Forteo 3 mths ago and have bad side affects
I started Forteo 3 mths ago and am dealing with bad side affects. I already suffer from chronic ISBD but now have severe diarrhea and have lost 14lbs and every day from the time I wake up until about 2:30 in the afternoon I'm running to the bathroom, it's increased my migraines, I have hair loss, i was taking BP meds before due to high blood pressure but had to stop because now my BP is incredibly low heart rate is high and my BP crashes at least every 2 weeks to 57/37. I already have angina but now because my BP is low I can't take nitro when I'm suffering with chest pains. When I give myself shots I have no problems on the left side but my right side bruises and bleeds every time... These are just some of what I have been dealing with since starting Forteo. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with these shots???? I can't imagine living like this for 2 years!!!

Prayers!!!
Thank you. I am really trying to get past all of these issues before even thinking about anything else. I'm so exhausted with this battle and honestly just wore out in the fight. I appreciate your understanding. Thank you.
How did the appointment with your primary go? Any relief yet?
It is now over 3 weeks since your initial post, Naomi, and I am hoping that your condition has improved considerably. Please check in as at least I am concerned.
Thank you for checking on me, greatly appreciated. I saw my primary last week and we were going over everything. I found out that she as an internist (she is my new fill in primary) is very familiar with all injections for osteoporosis. She was very surprised she started me off on that one as she says that is the harshest one on the body. She also told me it takes 3 months for everything to get out of your body completely after stopping it, so she is working with me on these lasting affects, ie, the diarrhea, low bp, which we are charting, increased migraines, which we have increased my meds for, the cough which is still horrible, and I have an appt to see my cardiologist for both the chest pains, irregular heartbeat, and blood pressure issues. So am taking it a day a time. At least I seem to be holding my weight now so I'm thankful for that. Definitely continuing to pray!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
It must be so comforting to have a doctor who listens to you and who is actively working to resolve the issues.
Any improvements? Have you been able to see your cardiologist?
@naomikrst primary care docs are trained (partly due to insurance policies) to think that "front line" medications are bisphosphonates (usually Fosamax) or Prolia. This is unfortunate. Experts in the field (my doc, see also Ben Leder's video on Sequencing and Combinations and Keith McCormick's book "Great Bones") are saying that bone builders should be first; Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity.
My own PCP expressed surprise that I was on Tymlos first, even with severe osteoporosis and 7 fractures! She is a good doctor. I found it disturbing.
Insurance companies want us to "fail" bisphosphonates or Prolia because they cost less. People are working to change that.
I could not tolerate Forteo at all. I have tolerated Tymlos because the dose is adjustable and Evenity is another option.
No improvements, no unfortunately he's booked 2 months out and trying to get in sooner is like pulling teeth and now I had to change insurance so will have to find a new cardiologist next month... So here I go again... Thanks for asking.
Now I will be losing my primary come Jan and will have a new one who will have to start over with since I had to change insurance... Praying she'll be able to help like my last one 🙏🙏🙏
