I started Forteo 3 mths ago and have bad side affects
I started Forteo 3 mths ago and am dealing with bad side affects. I already suffer from chronic ISBD but now have severe diarrhea and have lost 14lbs and every day from the time I wake up until about 2:30 in the afternoon I'm running to the bathroom, it's increased my migraines, I have hair loss, i was taking BP meds before due to high blood pressure but had to stop because now my BP is incredibly low heart rate is high and my BP crashes at least every 2 weeks to 57/37. I already have angina but now because my BP is low I can't take nitro when I'm suffering with chest pains. When I give myself shots I have no problems on the left side but my right side bruises and bleeds every time... These are just some of what I have been dealing with since starting Forteo. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with these shots???? I can't imagine living like this for 2 years!!!

Forteo, Tymlos and Evenity are all synthetic parathyroid hormones.
Some drugs just don't work well for us. There are the symptoms that you feel. But there are others more subtle that you don't feel. If a drug is causing discomfort, the inflammation is causing system wide problems. There are other medications. Which understandibly you would be reluctant to take.
I pray, though, that you find a good endo to check your parathyroid.
Why are people sadistically talking about other osteoporosis medications when Naomi's body has not recovered for this one. Her first priority, I would imagine, is to recover. She has far bigger issues than osteoporosis. I doubt if her life revolves around osteoporosis.
That's horrible medical care. I agree with others, file a complaint or at the very least find a new doctor.
My doctor wants me to take Prolia. I have low blood pressure, so I told him I really can't afford to take any medication that might make it any lower. I don't need to get dizzy and fall! Had anyone had blood pressure issues with Prolia? Thank you
I have knowledge of Forteo and holding bone density. Do you know how it works with Tymlos and Evenity?
@06111945cc actually Evenity is not a parathyroid hormone 🙂
@normahorn I don't think it is sadistic to discuss alternative meds when fractures are so life-changing. My fractures are not only permanently painful and disabling but they affect my GI system, my breathing and my heart.
I have many health issues: lupus, COPD, afib, neuropathy, vertigo and am a breast cancer surivor...I could go on and on. But of all of those osteoporosis has proven the worst and I just don't wish the misery of fractures on anyone.
I am sensitive to meds and fragile and it took me 12 years of osteoporosis (and cancer treatment) to finally find one I could take: Tymlos, and only because the dose is adjustable.
Naomi, I believe it is now a week after you stopped injecting Forteo. Any improvement with regard to your adverse affects?
Yes drinking gatorade and eating yogurt. Thank you.
No unfortunately still dealing with side affects. Have an appt to see primary next Tuesday. Thank you for asking.
Thank you!
