Severe stomach pain
I have had several years of pain in my stomach and not sure what to do. i have had ibs, acid reflux, gastritis, internal hemorrhoids. A few months ago I had a slighly irregular Z line, mildly erythematous found in the antrum and nodules were found in the ascendingn colon.
I have taken xypaxin for pain but it no longer helps. I throw up daily and have diarrhea, I have headaches. My stomach cramps so badly that I can go anywhere because of the pain. What should I do?

Google ‘functional dyspepsia’
That’s a real diagnosis. Maybe you’ll find yourself in that disorder

1 ReactionI agree with the suggestion to find a homeopathic doctor or naturopathic or functional medicine doctor. I had digestive issues and after 3 endoscopies due to GERD, gas, bloating, fatigue and no diagnosis of cause, I found a functional medicine doctor. She’s an MD that turned to functional medicine after a family member couldn’t get an accurate diagnosis. You can find one by city and state at ifm.org. Find one that specializes in abdominal issues.

1 ReactionI have had same GI issues as you do for last four years. I watch my diet and get better but then I start eating pastry and bacon(sometimes) and coffee, and pain returns. But, now, pain does not go away even with diet. I am on strict diet like your. Have been to different GIs and surgeons and lots of test. I have pain right in the middle where two ribs meet. Had nausea for few months but now I am fine. I still have pain after eating. I am having a test done called Endoflip. They use a catheter with a small balloon to look at my esophagus and also to check LES, Lower Esophageal Sphincter to see if opens and closes when food goes down in esophagus.
Rarely, food gets stuck in my esophagus. I have a small hiatal hernia as well. I think going on a strict diet and staying on that diet forever helps me sometimes. I am also having a 24 hour probe done. They place a probe with camera through nose inside esophagus for one day to see if I have acid or non acid reflux.

1 ReactionWow!
You are having some amazing tests…there was a period of time where I couldn’t swallow at all…water only. After about 10 days and weakness and difficulties thinking straight, my doc couldn’t see me and i finally went to the local health supplement store, and they recommended something, don’t remember what, but I was able to swallow and by the time I was able to see the Gastro, I was somewhat better. I brought the bottle of what I was taking, he looked at it, and said that there were better things than what I had, and walked out of the room. I thought he was getting me an RX. Nurse came in shortly after and said I was done. No RX. ?
Anyway, immediately changed Gastro to a wonderful guy that did 4 tests, and then a scope. All in about two weeks! Found some issues and helped me heal.
Good luck-sounds like you have an amazing team behind you!
Am seems so more intense. I have tried numerous rx , meditation, peppermint oil , heating pad ..no relief but from 5 am till around 11 feel horrible.
Ibguard doesn’t seem to do anything .. neither does hyosocamine .
Suggestions?
IBS and anxiety …? ..all tests come back normal .
Hi John. I just registered because I saw another publication of yours and wanted to ask you a question.
I am currently struggling with very bad IBS pain, and considering a nerve block. However, pain management doctors don't agree on what to do, as it's usually done on normosensitive patients with anatomical issues (tumours, inflammation...) not on hypersensitive patients with IBS. Did you ever get the celiac plexus block?
Btw, usually antidepressants that inhibit noradrenaline reuptake (amitriptyline, duloxetine) are what works best for pain...unfortunately for me, I am hypersensitive to them.

2 ReactionsGood morning
I got a referral from my GI & saw a Radiologist at ST Louis U. They met as a group after my visit and said with IBS I was not a candidate.
I have tried atleast 6 Rx and all have horrible side effects. Had to get off of all.
Trying meditation, therapy, non spicy food ( met with Two different Registered dieticians low fod map did not do anything) , heating pad, increasing water and excersise, and now started on magnesium glycinate and castor oil nightly.
Think really is all related to anxiety.
All labs, all tests, stool test, scans come out negative.
Keep trying don’t give up! Take good care of you.
Hyoscamine works wonders for my friend just not for me.

2 ReactionsThe fact that tests don't show anything doesn't mean it's anxiety, in IBS the alterations are microscopic, and dorsal horn neurons (the ones that channel peripheral pain sensations to the brain) are hypersensitive and firing way more than they should, but there's no test for that in clinical settings, just research ones. And there's not many treatments aside from noradrenaline enhancing drugs.
Too bad that they ruled out the block. I do know of an IBS patient that had the nerve block done but it didn't work for her. I will probably try anyway because my case is dire (8-9 pain, bedridden and disabled for years now) and I can do it privately. Nothing else helps and I've been eating chicken and rice for 7 years...
There's another thing that can be used which is the PENFS device IIRC. Lin Chang was in charge of a clinical trial but I'm not sure if it's already ended or not, it's an auricular stim device that brought relief to teenagers with functional abdominal pain, not sure how good it will be in IBS as the pain is different.

2 ReactionsFor anxiety-triggered IBS, try the virtual GI Psychology practice in Burke, VA. They just do telehealth sessions.
I tried them on the advice of my GI doctor as I had a huge anxiety trigger for my IBS (in addition to a huge trigger from foods).
Wherever you go, you want Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focused on the gut. Hypnosis CBT worked for me. It was so easy. A seven-week course. There are many studies that show it works, too.
Thank you very much! Glad it helped!!
