My new normal here to stay: 3 years out colon re-section surgery

Posted by virgo1952 @virgo1952, Sep 5, 2023

Hi Colon Supporters! . You may have seen my comments/ stories along the way. This last year I have concluded that my new normal is here to stay.

I am going to see a GI Specialist, who will oversee my ongoing care. My next colonoscopy will be in October/November 2023 and I am nervous since at the 3-5 year mark, you can find cancer again. I try to take very good care of myself (including stress management!). so I will see.

Thank you to those who have run across my writing and sent an acknowledgement.
I will be for ever grateful to the group for holding my hand through the scary times. I hope you all are feeling the support and caring that is evident from this group. Take care. virgo52

Hey, it is great to see a success story from a colon resection being 3-5 years out. My dad had his colon resection a year in a half ago and has had clear scans since. It is always nerve wrecking when he has his follow up appointments, but it helps to see other peoples success stories. Hope your upcoming colonoscopy comes back benign!

Hi! 🙂 I had a right side colon resection on 8/11 and I did have back pain which I chalk up to all the pressure having to lay on my back or sit in chair. I’m normally a side sleeper. It did start getting better for the most part. I never had pain under my ribs per say but I do have a sharp pain and feeling of something lodged on my left below the rib cage. Not sure what it is. I did have an incisional seroma which was drained and hoping its not a repooling in a different area or worse a hernia. I would mention it to your surgeon.

Yes, bring this and any other issues to your surgeon and insists in talking with him or her soon!I am a side sleeper also & use a pillow between my legs due to a TKR .

Good luck..!
