I also had problems doing only 2.5 mg reduction.
I dont know how to mitigate bone issues, but my primary says it is important to test regularly (six months?) for bone density and diabetes, which is another risk under long term prednisone.

Thanks jnwwells. I asked my GP about having a bone scan done, but he didn't seem to think it was necessary at the time as we know I already have osteoporosis. I'll just have to hope that the measures I'm taking will minimize further bone loss from the prednisone. I have heard that diabetes is another concern. It's so frustrating that the only medication that really works for PMR carries with it so many serious side effects.
