Elekta Unity: Is it an option as a MRIdian Alternative?

Posted by ddl @ddl, Oct 12, 2023

I was gearing up for treatment with the Viewray MRIdian equipment. Given the situation with Viewray, it seems I must choose a different path. I’ve started reading about the Elektra Unity system. It sounds very similar to MRIdian. Does anyone have experience with this system?

No personal experience with it but I think you might find this publication of interest that compares MRIdian with the Elecktra Unity system: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9911688/

ddl, apologies if I've missed it, but just what is "the situation with Viewray"?
(And, thanks, larryintampa.)

Just found a previous comment about Viewray, ddl; so, regarding my previous post to you, as Emily Litella used to say, "Never mind." 😁
And still, "Thanks" to you, larryintampa.

larryintampa: thanks for that link. It seems as if some of the reasons I chose the Mridian machine is now available by a couple of other companies: real time imaging while on the treatment table, dynamic planning, radiotherapy drugs to light you up in real time and more. Not sure about the margins used or even if the margin measurement is different because you are targeting in real time each growth that shows up with the radiation contrast. For those with new cancer or BCR, this is great insight, so thank you again.

joecontheroad: they declared bankruptcy fairly recently, and it is still up in the air, as to what will happen to the machines and the service contracts, I had treatment with their machine, and I was very satisfied, especially with the narrow margins.

Apparently, they are shutting down completely, according to UCLA & Dr. Kishan. Shame. Thanks to Ben, I got this Tx last month at UCLA.
