Estrogen cream recommended for prolapse, but ER+ Thoughts?

Posted by carolina8 @carolina8, Oct 12, 2023

Just came back from seeing my gynecologist about prolapse. She recommended using an estrogen crème. I have estrogen positive breast cancer. She said I should ask my oncologist about it since it’s a very small amount and because it’s a cream it works differently. Anyway I called oncologist and his nurse said it’s my decision but since I have estrogen positive cancer it could affect me. I felt she was most concerned that it was entirely my decision to take a risk. Has anyone used or thought about using estrogen crème to help prevent prolapse?

I just had surgery this past Tuesday & go back to the doctor next week. My margins & lymph nodes were clear, however, I don’t see my oncotype in the results yet so it’ll be interesting to see what that is. I also go for genetic testing next week. Wishing you all the best, hugs & prayers.

It took a while for the lab to look at the tumor sample and send the result. I know it’s difficult to wait.
Hopefully it will come soon. Wishing you all the best.

I was diagnosed July 2023, with ER+ breast cancer, caught early on an annual mammogram. Despite clear margins and lymph nodes after lumpectomy, oncotype testing of the tumor determined I needed chemo. I have tossed out all vaginal estrogen cream, which wasn't working to alleviate intercourse pain (nor was anything else), anyway. At 63, why should I risk feeding another ER+ tumor? Viagra is unfair to aging women like me and carries no cancer risk for men. I'm closing up shop and not looking back. I had zero genetic, lifestyle, family history, or other risk factors prior to diagnosis.

Thank you for sharing your feelings. I am 75 and was diagnosed in 2020. I also had chemo as well as radiation.
I do think if one in eight men were getting breast cancer we would be much further along in curing it. Anyway thank you again for sharing your thoughts and making me smile (which may not have been your intent) I think closing up shop might be a splendid idea!

Hugs to you

Yes I use estradiol and am ER +. My oncologist (DFCI) said it was fine, my gynecologist AND pharmacist both questioned weather I should take it.
I’m using it period! But one would think that by now there would be some data on this.

It's confusing because I had 1) genetic testing to rule out genes like BRCA, based on a blood draw; and 2) the post-op lab results showing clear margins and a clear sentinel lymph node. I thought I had skated on chemo and had no idea there was yet another lab test called oncotyping. So when an oncologist I had just met told me I needed chemo, I was stunned, as was my husband, who attended my appointments and thought the same thing I did.

Chemo is currently draining most of the joy out of my life, so I'll take any smile I can get.

I have Stage 1b ILC dx in 2022, no nodes, ER+PR+HER2-, & had surgery & radiation. I have bladder prolapse, use a pessary, and use a small dose of Estrace cream each week with the approval of my oncologist at MD Anderson…it has been a huge help.

I was in a similar situation. Didn’t think I needed chemo. Early stage breast cancer lymph nodes clear margins good. The octotype numbers came back and I was told I needed chemo radiation and screening every six months. It was a very difficult transition. Chemo was not great but I got through it and so will you.
Hugs and best wishes

I was using estradiol cream prior to my diagnosis and breast surgeon told me to stop. Oncologist agreed with her. I have tried Replens, coconut oil and now Revaree and nothing has helped. A lady in my Bible study said there’s a non-hormonal medication for menopause(she works in healthcare) and she’s going to send the info to my oncologist. Crossing my fingers and praying like mad. I hope all turns out well for you. Cancer takes so much from us.🌹
