For me, this is a timely conversation. A few days ago, I received my first pair of Sketchers; I've yet to wear them outdoors; I'm still breaking them in indoors. They are "cushy" compared to the Nunn Bush shoes I've been wearing. The Nunn Bush shoes are "old," not zero drop (I'd not heard that expression before), but far more offering of a feel of the ground than my new Sketchers. You can probably guess what's on my my. I'm wondering if I should begin wearing my Sketchers, even while I'm driving, or should I learn to alternate shoes: Nunn Bush while driving, Sketchers (when appropriate) all other times. I might add that I wear orthotics and would need them with either pair. –Ray (@ray666)

The most helpful advice I can give you is you won't know what works for YOU until you try it. Experiment slowly. If you feel comfortable walking inside, walking outside shouldn't be too different. Get in your car and just work the brake pedal to see how it feels. If you have a driveway, slowly drive up and down it. I've had chemo induced neuropathy for 3 years. Most of the pain improved in the first year after ending chemo. I'm currently dealing with numbness and discomfort from what feels like swelling but isn't. I walk outside and drive anywhere I want. I'm not sure how much I "feel" the car pedals, but I feel enough pressure to be able to adjust faster, slower, stop without incident. You'll never know until you try. FYI I wear Sketchers, Hokas and New Balance the most but also wear just about any other kind of well-padded shoe with decent support.
