I am 4 and a half months out from TKR. The surgeon says everything looks good and my physical therapist says my range of motion is good. The problem is I still have pain and some swelling. I started pool walking back on August 18 and it does help with the walking. Right now I am on prednisone, the surgeon said that should make me feel better. I have muscle pain and burning around the kneecap and neuropathy. I still get up a couple times a night to ice my knee. The surgeon says it takes a good year to actually feel better, can’t wait to feel normal again. My other knee needs to be done. I am not going to do it unless there is no alternative. I can’t wait to feel normal again.

I am a year out and still feel sore and get inflammation depending on what I do or how much I walk. I'm not sue we will really ever feel "normal" again because it's a prosthetic knee and not our own. My left is bone on bone an doesn't bother me at all since doing the right but the right had so much arthritis and that was what was giving me all my issues. I have muscle pain all around the knee area....mostly in my upper thigh. PT says keep stretching and the surgeon says just stop PT and do things on my own and hopefully it will resolve. I am stopping PT again next week. After PT my leg will be sore, stiff and hurt for days and I've been working on this for over a year. I'm ready to just not have it hurt.

I can relate to you. I am 6 months post op and very active but still having chronic pain around outside and inside the knee. PT says the muscles are just getting used to the increased activity and this is the reason for the pain. I am so discouraged at this point as I really expected less pain than before surgery. I hope you start to feel better soon 😊. My other knee needs to be done too but I can’t even imagine going through this again when still having pain. Take care.
