Of course the Dallas area has many excellent providers. A couple questions you can ask, "How many RALPs have you done?" "What are the statistics as far as quality of life for your patients." A research urologist suggested I ask these questions, and the urologist I selected, using a table of medicare statistics, was happy to answer them. I have been satisfied with his care.
Another way of pursuing this is to ask established MDs in your area who do not do the surgery who they would recommend. Many in the medical community have these opinions and are happy to share them.
My surgical group at kumed claimed 305 procedures in 2022. Mine went well without complications. Dismissed in 18hrs. My robotic surgeon was an engineer before being a surgeon. Comforting to think he understood me and the robot.
In Boston, both the Beth Israel and Dana Farber are high volume RALP centers. Drs Chang and Trihn from their respective institutions are excellent. Good luck in your journey.
Hello, After doing a lot of research on “RALP,” it’s advised to only have the procedure done by a surgeon who has performed at least 1,000 of them!
Best wishes and good luck
Age 7w when diagnosed 3/28/22. Cancer confined to the prostate from PSMA test, Gleason scores 3+4’s and 4+3’s. PSA was 19.8. Had one 3-month Lupron shot, which gave me wild hot flashes. Got prescription for Venlafaxine, which eliminated those. HOORAY!
Bought Dr Walsh’s book on surviving prostate cancer, available @ Amazon – read highlights at beginning of each chapter, then decide whether you want to read entire chapter.
I chose RALP & set 8/23/22 as surgery date, which allowed 3-4 weeks of Pelvic Floor PT to lessen chances of incontinence after RALP. No pain after surgery, some discomfort though. Catheter came out 10 days later.
One can find the resistance bands, like those used at PT clinics for Pelvic Floor exercises, on Amazon by searching “Whatafit Resistance Bands.” Great sets for $35 and less.
Several (4-5) days after the catheter was removed, I resumed PT sessions for a few more weeks at a Baylor Scott & White Clinic in Austin Texas where my “therapist” was educated/specialized in Prostate Surgery recovery. She had some clients who did PT only after surgery and were having continence issues 4-6 months after surgery.
I was FULLY CONTINENT after surgery! No leaks or dribbles at all!
Additionally, all cancer was removed. The pathology report indicated a previously undetected cancer that would have survived radiation. Today my PSA measures less than 0.008, undetectable. I feel blessed.
I wish you the best of luck! Come back when you have more questions.

I had the robotic surgery 13 years ago
I had the robotic surgery 13 years ago. I'm now on hormone therapy. I'm experiencing side effects. Anyone else?

May I ask what kind of prostate cancer would survive radiation?
