Constipation, weight gain, bloating
I've had constipation, bloating (as if I was 6 months pregnant), gaining weight and little appetite. I sometimes don't eat till 6:30PM and can gain weight. I've seen every kind of Dr: Internist, Gyno, 2 Gastro Drs, Cardiologist. I've have been through every test (xrays, MRI's, ultrasounds, blood tests), and everything comes out great, except there is always so much stool detected. I have seen a nutritionist and have taken supplements (B12, Apple Cider Vinegar) presciptions (Linzess), Miralax, MG Citrate.
My last Gastro Dr told me to take Dr Schultzes Intestinal Formula #1.
This has been going on for 1 yr (2 months after having Covid). No one can help. Has anyone else encountered these symptoms?

Hi I just joined and saw your post
I am 53
When I was 44 I had a very rare cyst that grows quickly and can be as big as 100lbs( mine was 9lbs). I have had 3 abdominal surgeries. I started this 40ish lbs overweight. The last time I left the hospital I was 130lbs overweight. I have struggled since after the first surgery with severe constipation, small bowel obstructions, bloating, inability to lose weight and so on. This year I had a flare up in January and was never able to feel like I wasn’t always on the brink. It has taken me 9 months, numerous doctor visits and a ton of my own research, but I finally feel I have a grip on this
I stopped eating fiber, period , end of story
Now that being said I still didn’t know what to eat. I was literally eating yogurt and crackers ( that’s it)
Now I have all food fiber content on my fridge and keep my fiber to below 20 grams a day
I am no longer bloated, I am able to control my weight and I feel good for the first time in 9 years
I hope this helps it took me 9 years to get here
Wow! I'll try anything. I've been tested for all food allergies, gluten, etc but everything always comes out great. I have nothing to lose by cutting out fiber. I do eat quite a bit of salad and fruits. Worth a try! Thanks!
Fiber always bloats me…not so much raw cucumbers or carrots, but fiber to help you “go”, fiber cereals, breads etc.
Good luck!!!
@lorisus,
Just a suggestion that you check out the Long Covid group. Your story sounds just like mine and I finally got some answers from an Endocrinologist. Lots of good information in that group discussion.
Best of luck to you
That sounds like a GREAT idea! I'll post it there too.
Also get a full panel thyroid test and ultrasound of thyroid. I had all those symptoms and turned out my thyroid. Bowel problems aren't always simply bowel issues.
I wouldn't eliminate fiber but would cut down as it can have the unintended affect of worsening constipation (if that's possible). I'd add raw carrots and raw, whole sweet pea pods to your diet. Fruit and salad are excellent choices. You might also try a low sugar muesli eaten hot or cold with milk. It has fiber and is just good for you and should aid digestion without a fiber over load.
I use Miralax at night and then Duclolax every other day. I know I shouldn't be using this much Dulcolax but nothing else works, and I've checked all the boxes too. I don't recommend it.
Hope you find something that helps.
That is interesting. How can thyroid problems affect constipation? Thanks.
I've had all those tests, as well. I have hypo thyroid and it's all under control. But I thank you for that, because it could've had something to do with the weight gain as well.
They had me on Linzess, miralax, dulcolax, Mg Citrate. I'm off all of those and am now on Dr Schultz's Intestinal Formula 1. That is much better for the constipation BUT, I still have the constant bloating and weight gain.
