First PSA test after Proton therapy. Pre PSA: 17 Post PSA number??
My 21 treatment program finished early July.
PSA of 17.
4 cores out of 12 positive...only one at 4+3.
I chose to forgo hormone therapy.
I will have my first PSA test post treatment this coming Friday. Super nervous but resigned to any outcome.
I am thinking that anything under 5 is OK, under 4 is good and under 3 is very good.
Thoughts?

Good luck. Just had my first PSA done after 3 months of final proton radiation treatments. Prior to radiation had 3.75 (yes still normal but had biopsies than confirmed prostrate cancer). First PSA test done 09/22/23 and it was 1.2.
I don't know if that is a good drop or not for me. Will have my first past radiation consultation with my oncologist/radiologist on 10/04/23. I will be able to ask and maybe post what they say.
I was very nervous as well wondering if treatments worked.
Where did you have your radiation treatments done? Was it proton?
I see you ended your treatments early July. That is same for me. I had my last proton radiation treatment done on July 5 at UFPTI.
It was in Japan. Proton. I am speculating that a 75% reduction after 3 months might be average so a baseline of 10 PSA might go to 2.5. Obviously, the greater reduction the better. If the reduction was say only 50%, I wonder if the obvious implication is that there were Mets that were missed on the imaging….
I had the mridian linac in Febuary instead of proton. 5 hypo fractional Treatments. No ADT. My PSA started at 10.29 on 10/5/2022 . Gleason 3+4. Cancer contained to prostate. Three blood tests since then: 3/31/2023 psa of 4.61, 5/25/2023 psa of 2.99 and 9/12/2023 psa of 1.4.
Your trend there looks very positive. Approx. 4 and half months out and your PSA had dropped roughly 70%. In light of your numbers, I could have a PSA of 6 and not been too concerned. Thanks a bunch!
I had my 4-3 two cores and 3-4 two cores out of 30 treated at Mayo Phoenix with the SRBT 5 proton treatments. I am 74 and my PSA went from 2.9 to less than.1 as they said undetectable. Well pleased and I also had the SpaceOar gel inserted but for the last week have had some very loose bowel movements. If it continues, I will call Mayo for a check on it.
