Right hip replacement

I am a 73 yr old bariatric patient. I had my left knee surgery performed done this past November. However my surgeon will not perform my right surgery because my belly would cover the incision area. I have tried and am losing weight slowly; but I now go out every two weeks because the pain is intolerable. My Dr wants me to go down to a bmi of 33.

I was seriously thinking of the posterior rather than the anterior procedure, but there are too many restrictions.

I am determined to get this done hopefully by the end of the year.

I had a right hip replacement 4 weeks ago. My surgeon prefers posterior surgery. Yes, there are some restrictions but nothing that I can’t handle. The first couple of weeks are challenging but so worth it. I would take surgical pain over the hip pain I was experiencing. I have transitioned to the cane and doing outpatient pt.
Good luck!

I had a total right hip replacement a month ago while on prednisone for an auto immune disease. I am almost 77 and diabetic with a BMI of 38. I had the anterior approach surgery and all the nurses and doctors commented on how they felt that was superior to the other approaches. I didn’t really care to eat for the past month but my appetite is now returning. My pain is now just muscular in the surgical leg where they had to move them out of the way during the surgery. No horrible pain in the joint like before surgery. It was so worth it. Best wishes on your surgery.
