Where do you want to grow old?

This post is timely for me! I’m 74 and interested in a community living situation…like 50+. Finding the right group like the Golden Girls would be amazing but may be difficult to find. I live in LA and have no clue how to find or create such a situation. I would consider moving to a different state or even a different country, even though my son’s family lives here. LA has become extremely expensive. I don’t have the money to live on my own and don’t think it’s a good idea to live with my son. Any suggestions or ideas on finding a community living situation? Or other alternatives? I also can’t afford the senior living communities in LA.

Hi, The answere to staying in your own home maybe to rent out your spare room to a boarder. I have done this, after my wife died, and becides the extra income I find it rewarding in that it helps to offset lonliness.

I live in a 55 or older cooperative that I found out about from someone I know. I'd suggest asking around to get ideas, look at websites, and take tours.
Also consider your interests that you might have in common with others. Here we have a large property so there is lots of interest in nature and gardening. Also there are lots of owner organized things like book groups, crafts, woodworking, games, music, excursions, and so on.
