Vaginal bleeding a tamoxifen side effect?
I have been taking Tamoxafin for 2 months. I am a 64 year old female post menapause. Last night I had a small amount of vaginal bleeding. Nothing so far today. Has this happened to anyone else.

Welcome @63pat. Vaginal discharge is a known side effect of tamoxifen. However, you said that you have vaginal bleeding. Any abnormal vaginal bleeding, bloody vaginal discharge, staining, or spotting should be investigated. It may not be anything to be alarmed about, but I would certainly mention this to your oncologist just to be sure.
Was last night the first time you saw the blood? Was it spotting?
thank you for responding. It was the first time and it was after urination that I noticed the blood. nothing at all today but this whole journey has me on edge.
Hello. I had vaginal bleeding when I went to 15mg of Tamoxifen. I didn't have it on 10mg. I went down to 10 and bleeding stopped. I went back up and it started. So yes, Tamoxifen can cause vaginal bleeding.
Hello,
I had some vaginal bleeding while I was on 20mg of Tamoxifen after 2 1/2 years. I went off if it to check the lining of my uterine wall which had thickened (also a side effect of tamoxifen). No issues there but I've been off now for about 9 months and trying to decide weather or not to go back on. They say I should be on it for at least 5 years total to get the 50% benefit of non recurrence, but I feel so much better NOT being on it. No mood swings, not as many hot flashes or night sweats, etc. Does anyone have a similar situation or a recommendation?
Thanks.
All drugs have risks and benefits, and we often have to assess our personal risk tolerance. You've gotten some benefit already from your 2.5 years, and after discussing with your doctor about alternatives you may decide the risks and side effects outweigh the benefits and decide to stop with peace of mind. I was on Tamoxifen for 10 years and had no problems but I know others who suffered unpleasant side effects and stopped. There is no hard and fast rule for this. Tamoxifen does not guarantee no recurrence it just lessens the average risk. Regardless of your decision it will be right for you.
I had vaginal bleeding while on tamoxifen. However, we decided it was from exercising. I took it for 10 miserable weeks though, then quit because of my extreme side effects. Everyone is different and you will make your decision based on you.
I have been on 20mg Tamoxifen for 5 weeks. I'm 66. So far my side effects are fatigue, hot
flashes, depressed mood. I had a hysterectomy many years ago so no uterus. My question is do those of you experiencing vaginal bleeding still have your uterus?
Thank you for sharing.
Yes, all my innards are still present. No hysterectomy. But a prolapsed bladder and my pessary could cause the bleeding when I'm on the treadmill.
