Why is this so hard to diagnose???? I've been to 3 different family physicians, a physiatrist, and have seen a chiropractor and have done PT. Not one of these doctors have even acknowledged slipping rib. I have paid thousands of dollars out of pocket to get no where. I called a thoracic surgeons office today to make an appointment and they won't see me until I go back to my family doctor (for the 30th time!) and have her do (another) exam and a chest xray. I just had a (3rd) time chest xray about a month ago at my doctors, but this thoracic surgeons office will not set an appointment to see me until I go to my doctor AGAIN!!! Are you kidding me??? How much money, time, tears, and frustration does a person have to go through!!!! I am beyond frustrated with the medical system in the USA!!!!

Do see my comment just above ... Ligaments are the issue, most probably, and the current round of doctors seem to only look at bones. They don't accept that ligaments can be fixed with prolotherapy. The 'fix' actually tightens ligaments that have been stretched and can't do their job .... hold the joints in place. Now I learn they also hold those lower ribs in place while I have been joking that the sore rib I woke up with one morning was another loose bone! UGH! The older I get the loss of muscles seems to be affecting the ligaments and my hEDS. Find a Regenerative Medicine doctor, and good luck! It is very discouraging that medicine seems so 'stuck'.

Thank you for your reply! I have never had an issue with any other ligament/joint in my body. Just the bottom rib on my right side, which then sends pain to my back. (Where the rib attaches in back) Right now I'm so discouraged that I have to take a break from doctors....I will pursue again in the near future, but I can't right now. I lost it when I tried to make an appointment with the thoracic doctor and they wouldn't see me until I saw my PCP AGAIN and got ANOTHER chest xray. Honestly, the amount of money it has cost me to find out nothing is enough to discourage me from ever going to another doctor!! Sorry for the rant, I just need some time to refresh and renew 🙂

It is all very discouraging. Our medical system used to be the best but now seems locked onto a structure that is stuck. Here are some ideas to do while you refresh ... https://www.lifemark.ca/blog-post/treating-acute-injury-go-meat-over-rice.
M.E.A.T. ... not R.I.C.E makes a lot of sense concerning help for healing.

I'm currently on a waiting list for an appointment with Dr Shiroff, after being diagnosed with slipping rib. Would anyone be able to give me some sense of how long you waited for an appointment for either Dr Shiroff or Dr Hansen after making initial contact with their offices, and after that appointment, how long it took to be surgically corrected? I'd very much appreciate any feedback in terms of how long wait times are... thank you!

@johnbishop I still have not been diagnosed, but head to WV in a little over a week to be checked and possibly have surgery.

My symptoms are all over. Rib pain. Upper abdomen pain, a lot of GI issues, muscle spasms, nerve pain, my whole alignment is off, but.. All my symptoms are mainly left side. I have mass tension in the body which causes other issues with my muscles.

I have spoken with a handful of people on a Facebook support group called slipping rib syndrome and they all think this is it for me. This is likely the cause of so many issues. I pray everyday this is it and I will get better. Its so depressed not being able to participate in life. Especially when you don't know whats wrong.

I have the same pain on my left rib cage like you, went to a chiropractor today and I don’t have a broken rib, it may be costochodritis. The weird thing is, I wake up in the morning pain free, by the end of afternoon pain start again

Hi I’m suffering with the same thing I think. I have severe hyperkyphosis. I was just wondering how are you doing now?

Curious as to what happened with Dr Klinkner and why you went to Dr Hansen. Thankyou!

How is your daughter after the surgery with Dr. Hansen?

My daughter is diagnosed with slipping rib syndrome. We went to a couple of orthopedics surgeon for her symptoms, and was recommended to see a thoracic surgeon. She is in Minnesota attending a college at the moment. Do you think it's better for us to see Dr. Klinkner first or Dr. Hansen directly? Thank you for sharing your experience.

@stacey01 My daughter is 15 and I believe she has Slipping Rib Syndrome.
Who did you see to get diagnosed ? We live in NW Iowa and have seen 4 doctors that look at me like I'm crazy when I suggest SRS. They keep running tests, which are normal, give her pain meds, that don't work and tried physical therapy with no relief. I've called the Mayo twice (she already has a mayo #) to make an appointment with Dr. klinkner but was told I couldn't ? They wanted to make her an appointment with pain management. Ugh!! I am so frustrated and tired of getting the run around. Please, any advice would be helpful.

We had the same experience. Skip Dr. Klinker. Dr. Adam Hansen is the best. My daughter is doing a lot better since the surgery performed by Dr. Hansen.
