I used to have SIBO several times, and got tested. Now, I don't eat sweets and dontvtake H2 blockers or PPIs. Anytime I took Tagamet, or Pepcid or Protonix, I got Sibo and thrush in my throat. When someone takes these pills, the gas and acid inside the GI disappears, and that's when the Sibo starts growing. So, if you have to keep taking these drugs, you keep getting Sibo.
