Hi @alexalee, I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion titled: 5 Months Post TKR, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/5-months-post-tkr-1/.
I did this so you could read some of the other members' experiences 5 months after their knee replacements and meet members like @aml01, @roxxxy2626, @continentalred and many others discussing their recovery and setbacks after knee replacement surgery.
@alexalee, how does you knee feel when you are walking? You mentioned pain when you flex and extend, but your range of motion is still good? How painful is it at rest or after activity?
I experienced pain in my lower back and SI joint in my 9-10 months out from my TKR. It's normal I think however PT did actually help some. They massaged a muscle I can't remember the name in my butt area (sorry) and it really helped the SI pain. I also had pain in my tendon that runs down the entire side of my leg and it made my hip hurt. All this subsided around the 12th month. I still get sore and stiff and wear a knee sleeve if I do lots of walking, mow the grass or need extra stability for things. It will keep getting better once everything finally settles. It just takes time. My ROM is good as well and my Dr. says everything is good,. Also, sometimes PT aggravates me and then I hurt for 3-4 days after. I use Voltaren for swelling 3 times a day or so and that really helps me as I can't do oral nsaids like most can take them.
